The Los Angeles Lakers were the third worst team in defensive efficiency in 2014 and will likely be worse this coming season. I don't see how they won't be the worst team in the league on defense.

They have an old and decrepit backcourt and no rim protection in the front court.

He never said that was the definitive starting line-up, he told various media outlets that except for SG (Kobe) ALL the starting spots will be up for grabs depending on performance in training camp.

If people really think Byron wants a 1,000 year old Nash running this Offense, in the Princeton no less, after the disaster with Mike Brown, you're either trolling or delusional. Lin will start at point in all likelyhood.

Unfortunately, we're still suffering from D'Antoni Syndrome, and are used to seeing Nash being run simply because of his name. I also wonder if management is pushing for Nash to start because of all the money they've paid him. They might want to see some ROI.

Regardless, Lin is the best PG on our roster by far. He should be starting. Nash should be coming off the bench, if he even plays at all.

unless Lin MASSIVELY under-performs in training camp, i see him earning the starting gig. Current Kobe Bryant requires a PG that can 1) Defend 2) Hit the open 3, and anything beyond that (play making) is a plus.

40 yr old Nash CANNOT stay in front of current NBA starting guards (Kobe has just as much trouble, which is why it would be detrimental to start them together). What he brings to the team is play making and pace setting. Thats something that would behoove the bench to have. Surround Nash with the young guns and players who can run in the open court, and hed be most effective. hes not going to be seeing more than 20-25 minutes a game, so why not put him in situations hed bring the most to the team.

Damn...Nash is so horrible too. He should not be playing in the NBA

I think this is just out of respect to Nash. He will not be starting in a couple of months.

Exactly. Plus, Byron made it perfectly clear he didn't even know how much Nash could contribute. And if he's emphasizing defense like he says he will, then the smart choice in that regard would be choosing Lin to be my starting PG 10 times out of 10.

He may not be able to stop the Top PG's out West, but at least he'll be able to hurt them just as much on Offense, and stay in front of his man and contest their shots.

    Nash is a corpse.

You are far more optimistic about Nash than most Lakers fans. Nash clearly said in those Grantland videos that he only came back so he wouldn't be medically retired, and he could keep gettin' dem checks.

yeah i remember that quote(and cringed at it, as well), and like you said, just trying to stay optimistic since were stuck with him one last season. regardless, as long as his body holds together, his basketball IQ will be prevalent in his game. and it will be best served running with the 2nd unit where they can hide his deficiencies (defense) due to the lesser competition seen in 2nd units.

    It won't last.

It's basically just Byron showing respect to Nash. But, once things get going, you'll see Lin move into the starting spot or Lin getting the bulk of the minutes/closing out games.

Nash's offense isn't nearly good enough to offset his lack of D for long stretches anymore.

lol...a couple weeks into training camp Nash will have his first inevitable injury and that will be that as far as the starting pg situation.

There is one average or above starter in that lineup. ONE! And people think they have a shot at the playoffs?

That is probably a worse starting defensive 5 than the one OP posted. I suppose it doesn't matter what line up they put out...no fcuks will be given on defense.
