Default 2019 off-season- Bring back the same group for more of the same?

Here we go. Sounds like Favors will be back and possibly Rubio as well and Exum obviously isn't going anywhere anytime soon

Tobias Harris, meanwhile, is a native of New York and was intrigued by Philadelphia over the course of this season, dating back to his time with the Clippers. Around the league, executives believe several other teams, such as Memphis, Utah, Dallas and Brooklyn, will also provide competition for Harris. – via The Athletic

Front office executives I’ve chatted with don’t think it’d be challenging to find a suitor for Gallo; he’s on an expiring contract and just had a career-best season. Not many teams could outright absorb his $22.6 million salary, but a few make sense, such as the Nets or Mavericks, or a club looking to accelerate their rebuild like the Hawks, or a playoff team looking to get over the hump like the Jazz or Pacers. The Clippers could have to sacrifice a future pick for a team to help them create two maximum slots, but that’d be a worthy price to pay. – via The Ringer

Quote:
The Utah front office believes the team is close to being a championship contender. If the Jazz can attract a top tier free agent, that might just be enough to get them there.

They had their guys and it would have cost them Exum. You think SA would have held on to Exum this long? They know when to cut their losses

Quote:
Jazz general manager Dennis Lindsey had some good reasons to not make too many changes coming to the 2018-19 season: The Jazz were a young-and-upcoming team, they didn’t have a lot of flexibility outside of resigning or not resigning Favors, and it was a shallow free agency pool. It made sense to gather more information on the roster.

Had lots of flexibility. Favors, Exum, Thabo, Neto, Jonas, Udoh, Niang...Went from that to no flexibility with the same guys which sucks. Made no sense at all! Would have made more if not for Exum being signed for more than a year. Or getting Conley at the deadline. Getting blown out by Houston again makes none. Just a wasted year

Quote:
After another season and an at-times humbling playoff loss, Lindsey has a better idea of who this Jazz team is.

Needs to be fired than. I knew who Ricky was when they got him. I've known who Exum and Favors are for years.

Quote:
Lindsey has been positioning for the summer of 2019 for years. He’s signed players to short-term deals and traded for short contracts in order to make sure the Jazz could create ample cap space for this upcoming free agency period.

and yet paid Exum this year when no one else was bidding on him or Favors as far as we know

Quote:
Ricky Rubio’s contract is up, so too are Sefolosha and Ekpe Udoh’s contracts. Utah has team options for Favors and Raul Neto. Kyle Korver said he is mulling retirement.

Only differences between that and last year is Rubio and Korver

Quote:
This team will almost certainly look different next season. Whether or not that’s an improvement depends on who the Jazz can bring in.

It depends on if they get players that fit around Rudy and Mitchell which there's no doubt they can do if they want to. Never got the impression that they wanted to. Pretty much already said Favors will be back and possibly Rubio.

Quote:
The Jazz think they have a lot of on-court appeal, too. Utah is a defensive juggernaut and will be as long as Rudy Gobert is on the Jazz. The offense produced the highest number of open looks, according to NBA.com, during the season and playoffs. Mitchell is a budding star.

the open looks are because of the bad fits on the roster. I thought the D was all about Snyder?

Quote:
“My sales pitch?” Jae Crowder said. “You wanna win?”

not a good one

Quote:
“A lot of times, we have to lose the press conference,” Lindsey said. “I have to take the bullets. ‘Here we go again, patience and this and that.’ For us, we would rather look at it fundamentally than what would have you guys (the media — and likely some fans, too) get off my back for a period of time.”

Yeah we know Exum was just too much of a price!

Quote:
“We all need to have a championship on our minds,” Gobert said. “Not when the playoffs start — it starts right now. From the players to the coaching staff, to the front office, we all have to be on the same page and have to have the same goal.”

you're in the wrong town for that Rudy

Mitchell can ball-handle and get his own shot, but almost never gets other guys shots.

put guys around him that can shoot and he will

Quote:
Rubio can ball-handle and setup others shot, but isn’t a threat from the perimeter and needs the ball in his hands.

which never made sense in their offense

Quote:
Exum can ball-handle and setup others shots, but isn’t a threat to shoot from the perimeter.

Exum can ball handle?

Quote:
Neto can do all three but can’t defend.

can't defend?

Quote:
Not only would the Jazz lose out on Brogdon, they lose out on free agency in general and get stuck in a situation where the only healthy point guard on the roster is Raul Neto. The team would take a step back ard could struggle to even make the playoffs in a competitive West.

Just missed the playoffs with Neto starting as a rookie and Rudy hurt. Who cares about making the playoffs and getting smoked?

Quote:
Im willing to bet Grayson Allen is that 3rd star.

in his mind anyway

Quote:
New Orleans blows it up and the Jazz trade their 2019 1st, Exum, Crowder, and Korver for Holiday. The team is then over the cap, but under the tax and can use their full MLE to sign Al-Farouq Aminu as the 3rd big. That gives the team Mitchell, Gobert, and Holiday as their core players, with Favors and Ingles rounding out the starters. O’Neale and Aminu are the key bench guys, and Niang, Neto, Allen, Bradley are deep bench. Round out the roster with G-League or international finds, like how DL found O’Neale and Niang.

Favors is a dream scenario? NO giving away Holiday? They didn't want Aminu last year for vet min. Why now for MLE?

Quote:
The Jazz keep Favors and use their cap room to offer Brogdon a $15 million deal that Milwaukee doesn’t match. The Jazz draft a guy who over-performs his draft slot and cracks the rotation. Everyone improves their shooting accuracy. The Jazz defense stays dominant, and the improved spacing by adding Brogdon pushes the Jazz to a top 10 offense.

Brogdon will cost more. Their draft pick is unlikely to play at least to start the year unless he went to Duke and that would be bad!

Quote:
They’re in trade talks for Holiday, maybe a sign and trade for Kemba, but they fall through. The Jazz decide to keep Favors and add Patrick Beverley or Darren Collison at point, Wesley Matthews on the wing, and/or Rudy Gay or one of the Morrii in the front court. The Jazz are still dominant defensively, and their shooting is more efficient, but the offense stalls more frequently because they still don’t have enough good ball handlers. Enough weaknesses are addressed to improve, but not enough to push the team into true contention.

makes more sense but Favors again

Quote:
The Jazz can’t lure any free agent point guards to Utah, so instead of bringing back Rubio or trying a reclamation project like Elfrid Payton, Emmanuel Mudiay, or Jeremy Lin, the team moves Mitchell to point full time and overpays a decent wing like Terrence Ross, Reggie Bullock, or Tyreke Evans. The defense takes a small step back and the offense doesn’t improve. It takes Mitchell most of the season to adjust to his new role.

looks better than now

Quote:
The Jazz waive both Favors and Rubio and Korver retires. The Jazz have $35 million in cap space, but none of the big names are willing to sign with the team. They end up with TJ McConnell at point and Thaddeus Young at PF. The team still has a bunch of cap space, but struggles to find players that are better than who they already have on the roster so they start looking to take on salary dumps to get more draft assets.

your nightmare is my dream come true!. No Ricky, No Favors!

Quote:
We waive Favors (sorry big guy but we need the cap room), and sign Harris to a max deal. Exum proves all the doubters wrong and is a revelation at full-time PG, averaging 16/5/8 as the starter and shooting 48/38/80. Niang gets strong enough to play smallball backup-5 minutes. Bradley is playable. We draft another steal and get a rookie capable of playing meaningful minutes.

dream o about Exum!

Quote:
but his body is fragile. We cannot depend on him when he plays at a high level (like he did prior to injury), its a matter of a few games until he is out for a year.

he sucks. Better if he's hurt

Quote:
if Favors, for example, wants to stay, he’s earned it. If he wants to go and try his luck elsewhere, he’s also earned that. What he hasn’t earned is to be treated like a commodity. Sure, the NBA is a business.

he's earned it?

Quote:
DL and the front office know that they don’t need to make a big move for a star to compete because you will keep showing up and spending money and stay in denial about the team’s faults no matter what. Somehow you guys actually like never contending but having "chemistry" more than winning it all. It’s insane

someone gets it

Quote:
This is the hand you are dealt , how do you turn this set of players into a team that "wins it all" ??

It's not the hand they were dealt. Could have Conley and actually think of contending

Quote:
And it’d be hard to feel good about waiving the guy who may well be our second-best player right now — when he just had the best year of his career — just to make cap space.

Favors has to go. Need a modern 4. Need more than 23 minutes a game from your 2nd best. 2nd highest paid player

Quote:
Trading for stetch big who can be a starting PF/Backup C makes the most sense. Can upgrade the roster at one position without going backwards in the other spots.

modern 4 probably won't be back up center. Bradley and either Udoh or another vet is the answer there

Quote:
If the Jazz traded for Warren, they wouldn’t be obligated to start him, and he and Ingles could split SF minutes. He could also play some stretch-4 PF minutes for the Jazz.

why would they be obligated? Think he came off the bench for the Suns

Quote:
You knew how the playoffs were gonna go for us as soon as the trade deadline passed and Ricky started trolling us all that he’d still be here killing the spacing and bricking wide open shot after wide open shot while his man double teams Mitchell or just stands in the paint.

I knew it when they brought everyone back a year ago

Quote:
After we waste Donovan and Gobert’s primes we can start the cycle over again by miraculously having a couple more stars land in our laps so our front office can waste the prime years of their careers as well. But it’s all worth it for the chemistry, right? That’s what being a jazz fan is all about, just watching those high character, jazz dna underdogs make their annual second round exit

someone gets it. Too bad it's not the front office and coach

Quote:
I’ve seen talk of gunning for Kemba but he doesn’t move the needle enough for me to let go of Favors. Kemba’s head to head numbers (and record) against Curry, Westbrook, and Dame are abysmal. Conley is more intriguing but that ship has likely sailed. Patrick Beverly could be an interesting option at PG. Perhaps a lateral move from Rubio except I think Beverly might prove more useful in the playoffs. If nothing else, he is better from 3. (BTW, Rubibros, I will readily acknowledge Rubio was probably the 4th best Jazzman against HOU (Favors, Gobert, O’Neale)).

Beverley is certainly one of the guys they should target. He actually fits!

Quote:
MIL gonna have to cut ties with one of Middleton, Brogdon, or Bledsoe. All are appealing but at the cost of losing Favors? Gobert/Favors finish with +3.6 net rating, +7.8 since KK trade.

Favors is a back up to Rudy. Need a modern starting 4.

Quote:
Q needs to not be so inflexible with his offensive scheme and use Favors better. It is most certainly plausible to have too many bad nights shooting 3s in a row with the rest of the roster as constructed. Favors was one of the best players for the Jazz this year and in the playoffs.

yes he was and that is the problem. He plays 23 minutes a game and is the 2nd highest paid player. Need more for their money than that

Quote:
My guess is the team basically looks the same next year. Dennis Lindsey got himself into a mess and I don’t think he’s capable of finding his way out of it.

Does he want to? Had a chance to get out of the mess of Exum and gave him 30 million instead. Had a chance to get out of the mess or Ricky, Favors and Exum for the 3rd guy they need and didn't

Quote:
the Jazz have cheap non-guaranteed contracts for Neto, Niang, and O’Neale at about 2M each. Those will all be picked up.

O'Neale will. Why bring back Neto though? He's never been appreciated. Niang was in the rotation at the end so they might want him back

Quote:
I think we keep Favors at a 17.6M. We might keep Korver at 7.5M, but his contract is partially guaranteed. That’s the biggest two knobs. If we keep both, the Jazz are at 93M with 12 players.

Favors is 16 something. Korver will be back if he chooses

Quote:
We need a point guard, given Exum’s uncertain health outlook. The Jazz either have 12-15M to spend or need to start packaging players to get a point guard. It isn’t clear who we can actually get for the salary available that is an upgrade. Brogdon is probably the best target, but he actually doesn’t handle the ball or pass that much with his current team. Would he be the right guy to direct the Jazz offense?

anyone that actually fits is an upgrade and that is almost anyone since most players are modern players not out of the 80's

Quote:
The Jazz would rather keep Rubio. If the Jazz want a point guard that plays like a $30 million a year player, they are going to have pay him like one.

Conley

Quote:
This is why I say the Jazz have to move Favors if they want to upgrade the roster.

and he pretty much already said that won't happen

Quote:
If they want a mid-tier point guard at around $15 million a year it may as be Ricky Rubio. Rubio already knows the Jazz personel, the Jazz offense, and what Snyder expects of him.

Ricky is a backup. No one else is goung to pay him 15 mill but than no one was going to pay Exum or Favors either!

Lindsey will be forced to make several spot-on choices in a sea of incorrect options

Get the best guys you can that fit. Ricky never fit. Favors hasn't fit since Rudy emerged. Exum sucks. It's not that difficult. Make a list of the guys that make sense around Rudy and Mitchell and go after them.

Quote:
Like any GM in the NBA (or in any league for that matter), Dennis Lindsey will be tasked with making a long list of some of the most terrible yet all-too-important decisions that will shape the next five-plus years of Utah Jazz basketball.

5 years? 2 at the most. Probably just next year. Will be another year before they get serious about keeping Rudy in town

Quote:
His first official item of business will come on June 20, the day of the NBA draft where the Jazz will have the 23rd and 53rd overall picks. This will be a walk in the park relative to what comes later in the summer. Sure, there will be some pressure to not draft a non-factor rookie like Grayson Allen tended to be this year outside of a couple of late scoring outbursts. But again, there are worse challenges that await.

Unless they get extremely lucky whoever they draft should have no impact next year on a 50 win team. Should be considered a Star until he proves otherwise

Quote:
Cut ties with fan favorites in pursuit of title contention or keep the most lovable Jazz team in years intact and embrace playoff mediocrity?

What is lovable about them? Not a whole lot more lovable than the darkest period of Al ball

Quote:
There’s not really an in-between here. If there is, it immediately becomes the worst option of the three because then you’re half-assing a championship run while also ticking a bunch of fans off by cutting their favorite player.

when have they not half assed it? The one year since Rudy emerged that they acted like they were at least trying they still had 15 million in cap space unspent. half assed

Quote:
So that leaves Lindsey with one of two passable options with positives and negatives. On the one hand, the last two season have showed a clear ceiling for this current core. Yes, they’re a 50-win team when healthy, maybe even borderline 60 if they catch a bunch of breaks throughout the season with scheduling and the health of fellow Western Conference teams.

60?

Quote:
This reality leads to its logical conclusion: improve the team by letting some guys go and bringing in fresh faces and more star talent. Well, that would mean allowing Rubio, Favors and maybe even Ingles to walk out the door.

Ingles fits. Ricky, Favors and Exum and their 40 plus million is where they problems lie

Quote:
So should Lindsey retain the beloved players instead? Well, if he does, there’s the reality mentioned above. The Jazz team that entered this most recent playoffs won’t make it out of the second round barring some very favorable playoff matchups and will never make it out of the West. But they’ll also make the playoffs for 3-4 years straight and win a few playoff series so there’s that to consider. If Utah moves on from these proven commodities for unknown ones, it could backfire and lead to missing the playoffs or landing in the seventh or eighth seeds, a fate worse than death for most franchises these days.

We've seen for more than 4 years that if Rudy is on the floor you will win games. What we only saw briefly is how good they could be with a team that actually fits around him. Bring everyone back though!

Quote:
With all that in mind, spare some pity for Dennis Lindsey. He’s got a rough summer ahead of him.

**** him! Should already have Conley. They'd be looking to make minor tweeks

Quote:
I just have my reservations on DL. I swear I could see him bringing back Favors and Rubio again. Using our draft picks on another Trey Lyles/Greyson Allen type player.

most likely scenario

Quote:
Bringing back the same core and hoping Mitchell and O’Neale take the next step in their third season isn’t the worst thing they could do.

it literally is the worst thing and the most likely thing

Dwight Howard did it twice. Rudy Gobert has done it three times. DeAndre Jordan did it three times, too. Hassan Whiteside did it once when he was making All-Star pushes. Now, Favors has joined the club as well.

which just tells us Favors has to go. He is Rudy's back up

Quote:
With those three players on the floor together this past season, the Jazz boasted a sweet D-rating of 99.3. Unfortunately, they also scored just 103.7 points per 100 possessions. If that was Utah’s number for the whole team, they would have finished as the worst offensive squad in the NBA.

but by all means bring everyone back!

Quote:
The Jazz could also use Favors’ money to pursue another playmaker on the perimeter to pair with Donovan Mitchell and simply hand the power forward reins over to Jae Crowder or another comparable player. After all, Favors is really best utilized as a back-up center, and $18.8 million is a lot to pay someone in that role.

Crowder isn't the answer. Thabo or Niang could be but won't

Quote:
In any case, as much as the Jazzland masses love D-Faves (and rightfully so), options need to be explored if Lindsey and Co. are serious about making this squad a title contender.

If they were serious you wouldn't be talking about this again. Conley would be on the team and they'd still be playing

#8 Didn’t get to see how Jazz could have fared with healthy Exum, Korver

yeah it would have been a different series

Quote:
But had Dante Exum been in action and had Kyle Korver been one hundred percent healthy, we might have seen a different team and a better result. Despite all of Exum’s shortcomings, he deserves credit for being one of the better defenders at holding James Harden in check. In last year’s postseason, he was easily Utah’s best option for containing the Bearded One.

and offense was the reason they lost both years not D. Exum makes the offense even worse. Counting on someone that sucks and a 40 year old!

Quote:
#7 Favors didn’t get nearly enough playing time in Game 5

which is why he has to go!

Quote:
If Favors had been in the game, there very well could have been a different outcome thanks to his offensive rebounding and better ability to control the ball. Not only that, but by and large Favors is merely a better fit against the Houston Rockets than Gobert. And as such, he should have been awarded a chance to prove what he could do and given the nod to close out the game.

I don't think he is. Put a team that fits around Rudy and see what happens

Quote:
In many circles, Ingles has been considered the Jazz’s third best player trailing only Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert. But unfortunately, he certainly didn’t look the part in this series. Joe was as inconsistent and offline as he’s ever been in a Utah uniform. And unfortunately, that horrific shooting slump at the worst possible time can easily be considered one of the main contributors to Utah’s incredibly disappointing series loss.

which again points more to the roster. Rockets took their 3 best players out and made Ricky, Favors etc beat them which isn't going to happen

Quote:
Despite being as wide open as could be, the Jazz continually failed to knock down the threes they needed to stay alive and compete with Houston’s high-powered offense. Kyle Korver shot 33.3 percent. Jae Crowder went 30 percent. Joe Ingles was 27.6 percent while Donovan Mitchell was at 25.6 percent. Meanwhile, Ricky Rubio went a horrible 20 percent from three while Thabo Sefolosha was at 12.5 percent. Yikes, yikes, triple yikes. Royce O’Neale, who is a good but not great 3-point shooter, led the team at a mediocre mark of 34.8 percent.

not surprising

Quote:
#3 First-round loss feels like a step backwards

not to me. Same team same result. Didn't move forward. same roster. no surprise

Quote:
#2 Probably last time we see this fun team together

I wish. Wasn't fun for me and more to come I'm sure

Quote:
Of course, all the things I’ve already mentioned led to that – poor 3-point shooting, Ingles’ slump, Mitchell’s disappearance in Game 5 and so on and so forth. But if the Jazz had executed just a little better as a whole, none of those other disappointments likely would have even mattered. Because if those two games had just gone ever so slightly in Utah’s favor, all of a sudden we’re talking about a 3-2 series in favor of the Jazz.

this series was lost in the off season and the trade deadline

They've got their new version in Allen anyway!

Quote:
Well, I’ve got to hand it to Rodney Hood. He was actually playing some of his best ball with the Jazz prior to that trade that landed Jae Crowder in Salt Lake City. Hood averaged about 17 points per game with the Jazz during the 2017-2018 season. He also was having his best shooting year as an NBA player – he shot 42.4 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from deep.

but they Jazz weren't good with him on the floor. The biggest problem is that they never used him properly. At best he is a 6th man. Not a starter. Not a go to guy. Nut he went to Duke!

Quote:
I think Hood will be looking at an annual salary anywhere from $5-8 million. That’s a reasonable price. I’m not suggesting he should start – although they could start him alongside Donovan Mitchell if they miss out on all of their free agent targets. Preferably, re-acquiring Hood would be to have him as your sixth man.

the problem is he went to Duke. You forget that part?

Quote:
Trading Hood was a tough decision made by Dennis Lindsey. After the trade was complete, Lindsey said Hood will always have a special place in the Jazz’s heart. He also said he hoped to see Hood make a game-winner on ABC, as a member of the finals-bound Cleveland Cavaliers. There’s clearly no hard feelings between the two sides.

Hood asked out or he'd probably be here making a ton of money. I'm guessing he'd be happy to come back now but no thanks

https://www.deseretnews.com/article/...reat-team.html

Quote:
With that, Utah has officially entered a phase of team building that Jae Crowder acknowledged later in the day is incredibly difficult: Going from good to great, a task he said is much harder than going from bad to good.

It's really hard if you don't even try

Quote:
Offensively, the Jazz finished the regular season 14th in offensive rating (110.2) and 17th in points per game at 111.7. These mediocre numbers came despite the fact that, according to the subscription-based website Cleaning The Glass, Utah finished fourth in the league in percentage of their shots attempted at the rim and eighth in percentage of their shots as 3-pointers, which are the two most desirable shots.

Other teams will let Ricky, Favors and Exum have those shots all night long. That's over 40 million in those so called desired shots. That is the heart of the problem right there

Quote:
What does this mean? One conclusion that can be drawn — and it’s been supported anecdotally for a long time — is that Snyder is a mastermind at creating a successful offense (Lindsey noted during exit interviews that Snyder is doing “some cool stuff” on offense), but that the Jazz weren’t able to execute it well enough.

and the other conclusion is that the other team let's them have those shots

Quote:
With the way Snyder has designed his offense, Utah could certainly use at least one more knockdown shooter, which Lindsey pointed out last week.

Need more than that. Everyone on the floor but Rudy needs to be able to hit open shots.

Quote:
In truth, the Jazz could use one more scorer in general, whether that comes through a 3-point specialist or a player who is able to get points by creating his own shot. Mitchell finished 16th in the NBA in points per game during the regular season, but the team’s second-leading scorer, Rudy Gobert, finished clear back in a tie for 59th.

more shooting will open it up for both of them. Need a team where the D has to pick their poison not choose who they want to leave wide open because they suck

There are two ways Utah can go about adding another established impact player: trade and free agency. Potential trade targets are tricky to identify, and any player could become available at any point, but two who would help the Jazz and it stands to reason could be gettable this summer are Memphis Grizzlies guard Mike Conley and New Orleans Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday.

Conley will be even more expensive and Holladay will be more expensive than him. Next...

Quote:
Utah reportedly had heavy interest in Conley at February’s trade deadline, although Lindsey at exit interviews expressed extreme displeasure that leaked. Would he not want to engage in talks with the Grizzlies about Conley now?

Why would he? The player available that best fits the team and having to give up Exum(assuming the new GM is as stupid as their last one). How does this happen now?

Quote:
The first came in 2016 when seven-time All-Star Joe Johnson signed a two-year, $22 million deal with the Jazz. Yes, Johnson was nearing the end of his career and Utah offered plenty of money, but he was only two years removed from his last All-Star appearance, yet he chose to go to Utah. A year later, reports surfaced that Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry was interested in signing with the Jazz before he ultimately returned to the Raptors.

They had just traded for Ricky so I call bullshit on that one. No one has yet explained how Lowry and Ricky fit together

Quote:
Getting enough salary cap space to potentially sign an elite player such as Charlotte’s Kemba Walker, Phiadelphia’s Tobias Harris or Milwaukee’s Khris Middleton wouldn’t be all that difficult, but it would come at a price as far as team chemistry is concerned.

Yeah you can't have team chemistry without guys who don't fit on the floor

Quote:
By simply not resigning Rubio and not guaranteeing the final year on Favors’ current deal, Utah could open up about $30 million in space, which would be right around what these top players will command annually.

Closer to 40 million which is around what they'd have if not for Exum

Quote:
At exit interviews, both Lindsey and Rubio made it seem as if Rubio likely won’t be back next season. Lindsey, however, gave the impression that he would very much like to have Favors back, which would make it virtually impossible to sign a max salary player without a series of other moves.

Didn't get that sense at all. He said many scenarios where Ricky could be back. Any scenario with him starting and the GM needs to be fired

They’re not the only ones whose futures are uncertain, though; a low-key important decision facing Jazz GM Dennis Lindsey will be whether or not to retain 13-year vet and former All-Defensive Team pick Thabo Sefolosha. And, ultimately, it may not be up to just the Jazz.

the coach isn't a fan so why bring him back? Maybe get on the same page with your coach for a change?

Quote:
In doing so, he’s been an overwhelmingly positive impact player. This past season, the Jazz outscored opponents by 8.6 points per 100 possessions when he was on the floor, a mark second only to that of Raul Neto.

and yet like Neto hardly played. Why bring them back?

Quote:
On the down side, Sefolosha has been limited to just 88 games over the course of his tenure due to injuries, which begs the question of just how much tread he has left on the tires.

wasn't all injuries. A lot of it was the coach but don't let that get in the way of your analysis

Quote:
If the Jazz are looking to make a splash in free agency or on the trade market, they ought not pay much more than the minimum to retain Sefolosha, and whether he’s willing to take a pay cut and continue on in a tertiary role remains to be seen.

worth more. Should have been starting for the Jazz

Conely might be somewhat of an afterthought for most teams, but he’s still very much in his prime. Coming off a season in which he averaged 21 points and six assists on 44 percent shooting from the field and 36 percent shooting from 3-point range, there’s no question that he still has very much left in the tank.

doubt he will be an afterthought. The price will go up. Don't see the Jazz getting him now. They blew it

Bojan Bogdanovic, Free Agent

Pacers best player how do they pry him away?

Quote:
Malcolm Brogdon, Restricted Free Agent

now him you would think they might be able to get. He's now Conley though

Donovan Mitchell also saw a 3.3 point per game improvement year over year. The hard part is Donovan Mitchell saw a big increase in shot attempts at the rim and his efficiency from this rookie year didn’t carry over. Why is that?

Players take more and their efficiency goes down. Typical

Quote:
Well ... the Utah Jazz year over year were a worse 3 point team. They shot 35.6% from three when they shot 35.5% last year. Most importantly, their designated floor spacers were worse from three. Joe Ingles dropped from 44% from three to 39%. Ricky Rubio dropped from 35% to 31%. So the three point shooting fell to Jae Crowder (33%) and Royce O’Neale (38%). But they didn’t play as many minutes as the former and Donovan Mitchell saw most of his minutes with the former. That’s why the Jazz traded for Korver in December to improve spacing.

So why did they trade for Ricky and pay Favors and Exum than?

Quote:
DL and Quin have been smart adding playmakers and stretch 4s to the roster should help Donovan in double team situations. Rubio helped him the most last year in those situations which might indicate what Grayson could possibly do if his shooting translates well to the NBA. And honestly Rubio shooting was getting consistent. This year double teaming Mitchell is a bad idea.
If teams do get torched when they double Donovan, then he might have more single coverage and better FG numbers this year.

Allen is a gunner. Until he shows he's more than that he's useless and probably a liability because he went to Duke

That uptick in play down the season’s stretch allowed him to up his scoring and 3-point efficiency for the season as a whole significantly from a year ago. Despite a slow and less than favorable start, Mitchell most definitely took a step forward in 2018-19, which is exactly what fans hoped to see. Not only that, but he led his squad in scoring for the second straight season and guided them once again into the playoffs as the fifth seed in the West.

Rudy guided them. Without him he is Booker
