Dirk should be content if he retires as a Top 50 player of all-time, Let alone 2nd greatest white man ever. If he wins a ring, he'll be in the consideration.....I highly doubt he'll be 2nd greatest white player ever though even WITH a ring.

That said, Dirk isnt passing west and I love dirk. Dirk is pretty clearly behind pettit, west, havlicek and barry relative to when they played(im not arguing the stick him in 1960s argument because its pointless and would never happen) Add those guys to bird and id say he ends up top 6 or so but not top 2 by any stretch.

Better at what? West was one of the league's best scorers, he averaged 30ppg multiple years on near 50% shooting. He was also one of the league's premier play makers leading the league in assists. And on top of that he was also one of the best perimeter defenders ever to play. Think Kobe Bryant today.

Dirk Nowitzki is a better rebounder (due to his size). Scoring is debatable. West blows Dirk out in defense and passing. Thus, how is Dirk exactly "better"?

He was the leading scorer and play maker on the Lakers while also being their top perimeter defender. Lastly, I believe he also received more MVP votes than Wilt that season. I think that gives him a strong case for being the best player on his team. Wilt made an impact defensively and on the rebounding end, but I believe West's impact in being the primary playmaker and scorer was bigger. The fact that he was also their best perimeter defender really seals the deal.
