Default Hope Phil Jackson doesnt kill our cap for next summer

Next summer is where the fun is at:

    Anthony Davis
    Lebron James
    Kevin Durant
    Goran Dragic
    Jared Sullinger
    Miles Plumlee
    Hassan Whiteside
    Mike Conley
    Mozgov
    Harford
    Goran Dragic

Next summer our payroll would only be $32 million and change. And with the cap expected to jump to $89 million, year after- $108 million and year after that $127 million...Phil SHOULD NOT be looking for a quick fix.

PLEASE PLEASE dont blow your load on Jeremy Lin and Greg Monroe.

    That would truly be Linsane.

why don't you just make one thread to put your thoughts in? There's also a Knicks forum. Why does every thought you have get a separate thread here?

So I'm the only one who posts about his favorite team in this forum?

Worry about cap later, the knicks need to compete if they even wanna think of signing any of those players

    If they can put together

    grant/calderon/galloway
    galloway/lin mle
    green 10m a year
    Melo/porzingis
    Monroe at 15 a year/bargs vet min

Thats enough to make a run in the playoffs and attract/have enough to spend on that 1 dude that can put them over the top in the 16/17 season.

Not sure that team could make the playoffs and definitely couldn't make any sort of run. The defense would be atrocious.

Anthony Davis is either staying on the Pelicans or going Chicago.
Lebron James is in Cleveland for life. He's going to be involved beyond the court there.
Kevin Durant is staying put or outside chance going to DC.
Goran Dragic is going to take the money the heat offer.
Jared Sullinger would be a viable Knicks option. Can be a 17ppg 10rpg players.
Miles Plumlee is not going to be a franchise saver.
    Whiteside is not leaving MIA.
Mike Conley could possibly be available.
    Mozgov could be an option.
ATL will not let Horford go. They have no prospect big even close to replacing him.

The Knicks are not a desirable situation despite being big market.

Bullshit, we were a top 10 defensive team.

A big reason for that is that Millsap and Horford can switch on just about anybody and play out to the perimeter. Good luck getting Melo to do that while shouldering a 25ppg scoring load, and it's simply madness to think a rotation of Monroe/Bargs/Porzingis can switch on anybody considering they're all atrocious defenders.

I'm fairly certain no team should EVER overpay for a player. You pay for a player you want, and you pay what you believe they are worth. If they choose a better offer? Let someone else deal with the cap headache.

Thanks for the ground breaking post.

Porzingis isn't a bad defender has good lateral quickness, figures to be a good help defender but he may get bullied in the paint. Pretty much the opposite of Bargs who can hold his own in the paint but can't cover any ground or play help d. Not too sure about Monroe, but he can't be worse than Amare defensively.
And with the lineup I had, Galloway/Grant/ and Green are all plus defenders so they shouldn't need too much help defending the perimeter.

This thought that you'd go into 2016 with NO roster and Durant would join you was the Nets plan and was so stupid they gave up on it already. But you want the Knicks to do that. Get no players, lose 50 games, then free agents will flock. SURE.

We'll see on Porzingis, but I have my doubts that he's going to make much of an impact on the defensive end, at least right away.

Jerian Grant is certainly not a plus defender, he was average in college.

Bargs and Monroe are both below average.

Galloway and Green are good defenders, sure.

But that team overall doesn't figure to be a top 10 team defensively and unless Porzingis has a ROY type season doesn't look like a top 10 offensive team either. Maybe with a good system in place from Fisher but I wasn't blown away by his coaching in year one.
