Note: I'm not complaining about Duncan at $9/$10M, i'm talkign about if it's true they are really asking him to sign at $3M a yaer.

What "financial issues" is Duncan having? How can we sit here and say that 5 million dollars is worth more than the glory of another championship to a player like Duncan? Maybe he loves Basketball so damn much or maybe he wants to ascend even higher in the history books?

Could it bee that a player of Tim Duncan's caliber is willing to bet on himself to make money after his playing days are over? Does anyone honestly believe that Duncan will not have a job with the Spurs in some capacity for the rest of his life?

Timmy's still got beaucoup dollars, though. He can take whatever he wants.

The Spurs shouldn't lowball Duncan to that degree considering what he's done for them. The fact he'd do it makes it worse, not better. Take advantage of the great guy who is as the core of your franchise.

Agreed, if a player of Duncan's stature took $3m a year that'd maybe explain why Duncan got screwed by his wife and then his financial advisors.

You're Tim Duncan. You eat first, and if a ringless Aldridge wants the honor of playing with the great Tim Duncan let him take the paycut.

Please also understand that was FOUND because he is getting a divorce that will likely be far MORE costly as well.

If everyone under the sun is getting enormous offers and Timmy ends up making 5M... Just no.

Tom Brady has been taking paycuts for years. When guys are on these dynasties and have already made tons of money they sometimes care more about their legacies than making an extra $10 million.

Dirk did the same sort of thing in Dallas.

That's what happens when you build a winning culture. People will play at a discount to be a part of it.

Nobody thinks Duncan is taking 3M a year

In theory, I agree completely. In reality, they just don't do it that way.

Let's not forget...Duncan pretty much coasts through the regular season (the games he's actually earning that salary for) and has for years. Come the playoffs (different pay schedule entirely), that's when he finally kicks it into gear.

One of the top 5 highest paid basketball players of all time.

    Financial issues lol

If you're gonna be a hater Niko, then stop acting like you know what you're talking about and come out and say you're a hater.

Also OP, the Spurs are already offering Kawhi the Max, Tim Duncan close to what he made the past couple of years. The player in question would be Danny Green, not Tim or Kawhi, who other teams are offering more money for anyway.

"Spurs looking to re-sign Kawhi Leonard to a five-year max deal. With Leonard in the fold, the Spurs will immediately focus their attention on UFA Aldridge. The fear is that they won't have enough room left to retain Danny Green, who has attracted interest from the Mavs, Blazers and Pistons"

Funny how shaken up people get about the Spurs trying to sign a FA for once in the past million years. Basketball is still a business.

Duncan made what, $10 million the past couple seasons? $220 million or something over his career in just basketball salary? Yeah, he's not starving but SA isn't going to throw $3 million at him. I'm almost certain they have this worked out in advance of the Kawhi deal and any attempted UFA signings they make.

I remember that 2-for-$10 million deal was exactly the deal Ray Allen signed for his last contract in Boston before they came down to $6ish million in his next free agency the year he went to Miami...and he took $3 million to play there and chase a ring. Players will take less for the right situation.
