Default Twin Peaks - An eagle with a dove

    y’all know

gotta burn one for the homie

hop in ,, strap up ,, hit this

    let’s touch a few corners

3-4 year playoff peaks and career best postseasons since mid-70s

kept reading how kobe’s peak doesn’t compare with other atg
but looking at the chart below and indexing the stat-lines at
b-ref using 15 game minimum , only 1 player comes close

kobe’s twin peaks are exceeded only by jordan (89-93)

lebron avg 30/9/5 in 2012 over 23 games– nice peak

kobe averaged 30/5/5 in three straight final runs

They said he'd never get close

won’t run down the huge list of “he’ll nevers”
or we’d be here forever , but from day one
    Kobe’s most loyal detractors guaranteed
he’d never get close to MJ in anything
let alone surpass his career totals in
    points , rebounds and assists

jordan fans have repeatedly stated that the rule changes of 2006
are what allowed for kobe’s volcanic scoring explosion that year

not saying they didn’t play a part - but who was it that
actually benefitted the most from those changes

    ………………… PPG ………… FGA …………. SPG ……… FTA ……….. FPG ………. ratio

    kobe ….….. 35/30 ... 2173/1924 …. 27/23 … 819/713 …… 10/9 …….. 249/106
    iverson …… 33/30 … 1822/1818 …. 25/24 …. 829/786 ….. 11/10 ……… 4/43
    lebron ……. 31/27 … 1823/1684 ….. 23/21 … 814/636 …… 10/8 …… 139/178
    arenas ……. 29/25 … 3384/3274 …. 21/19 … 799/640 …….10/8 ……. 110/159
    wade ……… 27/24 … 1413/1318 ….. 19/17 … 803/762 ….. 11/10 …….. 95/41

this is what these guys are crying about

a few points on a few more shots

compared to 2003 - kobe took 4 more shots to score 5 more points
Iverson numbers remained basically the same as 2005
    . . . . . . not even d-whistle garnered +50 FTA

If anything you’d think the rule changes were strictly for lebron and
arenas as their FTAs actually ballooned in comparison +178 +159
while league FTA and scoring average barely moved an inch

    ……………. LSA ………. PPG ……….. FGA ………. FTA ……….. LFGA ……….. LFTA

    2005 - - 97.2 ……… 30.7 ……….. 1818 ……….. 795 ……….. 6588 ………… 2137
    2006 - - 97.0 ……… 35.4 ……….. 2173 ……….. 829 ………… 6477 ………… 2157

    Diff. ---- 00.2 … … +4.7 ……….. +355 ………. +34 ………… -111 …………. +20

the only sizeable increase was kobe’s FGA (+355)
while league-average actually dropped 111 shots per game

    year-to-year league scoring average

    80-89 / 109–108–108–108–110–111–110–110–108-109
    90-99 / 107–106–105–105–101–101---99 - 96 - 95 - 91
    00-09 / 97 - 95 -- 95 -- 95 - 93 - 97 -- 97 - 99 -100 -100

from the mid 80s to late 90s scoring dropped a whopping 20 ppg

1980 to 1993 LSA had only dropped 4 points from 109 to 105
(just 6 points shy of the mid 80s peak of 111 per game)

what caused the 20 point droppage?

the league went from big man heavy to perimeter play

    1986 – 1997 All-NBA

    FRONTCOURT
    hakeem – ewing – drob – barkley – karl – kemp
    coleman – L J – juhoward – v baker – a mason

    BACKCOURT
    pippen – mullin - g hill – g rice – detlef shrempf
    payton – penny – sprewell – mitchR – reggie

    1998 – 2009 All-NBA

    FRONTCOURT
    shaq – zo – deke – j’oneal – wallace – yao – TD
    cwebb – KG - dirk – amare - dwight – pau
    bosh - aldridge – zach – blake – k love

    BACKCOURT
    tmac – pierce – metta – lebron – carmelo – strick – kidd
    steph – nash - billups – Iverson – kobe – VC – allen
    peja – wade – durant – rondo - p george – paul
    b roy – t parker – d rose – westbrook – manu

much like the 80s the 00s had great big men and perimeter play
ball-handlers scored the most points , , , provided the most
excitement and won the most titles and fmvp awards

only moses ewing and karl finished top 3 in PPG and only
moses and kareem were named fmvp during 14 year span

without jordan the league knew it was in trouble
because its best players were all big men
    hak - ewing - drob - shaq - chas - karl

    -thus-

    RULE CHANGES

    1994-95
    • Shortened the three-point line
    • Hand-checking eliminated
    • “Clear path” rule

LSA still dropped 4 points and by 1996 was no longer triple digits

    1997-98
    • The three-point line lengthened to original distance
    • Forearms not permitted to impede progress
    • The “no-charge area”

LSA dropped another 5 points to 96 ppg with final scores
    87-83 in 2OT . . . 76-69 . . . 87-65 . . . 35-27 at half
    . . . . . . shitts was sad mane

1998 from 10/31 to 11/5 there were 46 games played
    . . . . . teams scored only 70-80 points in 30 of them

1999 from 2/5 to 2/15 the number of teams that scored
    100 points in regulation was 5 , , and by year’s end
    . . . . . . . LSA had hit a disgustingly low 91 ppg

    In 6 years LSA had dropped 14 ppg . . . . . . . . . LOCKOUT

    -more changes-

    1999-00
    • No contact in backcourt - can’t reroute or hold-up from point A to point B
    • The official(s) will visually commence a five-second count
    • Any defense is legal on the strong side.

LSA jumped 6 points to 97 ppg

    2001-02
    • Illegal defense eliminated entirely
    • Defensive three-second rule implemented
    • Brief contact initiated by defender allowed if not impeding

LSA dropped again reaching a decade low 93 ppg in 2004

    -more changes-

    2004-05
    • New rules
    * curtailed hand-checking * clarified blocking fouls * defensive three seconds
    “to open up the game.”

LSA jumped 4 points and hit decade high 100 ppg between 08-10

    .

although happy-whistles ruined the flow of games

    2014 closed at 101 ppg . . . the highest in 20 years
