Durant has better stats, similar record if not identical in a much tougher conference, and has played the majority of the season without his second best player. Durant has also way more amazing games this season than LeBron, and has been consistently good on defense, something that LeBron can't say too. The only thing that got LeBron back in the race is using the given situation, as westbrook came back, LeBron stepped it up, Durant gets less shots, so his stats will be back to earth again, and people, usually being the prisoners of the moment, will vote for the one who has only been really good as of late.
It's good that MVP isn't a serious award, otherwise, this could be the robbery of the century if they are equal the rest of the way, and LBJ wins.

no he doesn't. he just has higher volume scoring because he takes more shots. lebron has better rebounding and ast rates. The 2 min difference in game time is whats makes Durants raw avgs look better.

First of all, there's still a long way to go.

But right now, Lebron is riding on a rocket while KD is standing still pretty much, if Lebron keeps on doing crazy sh!t like this, he's gonna win his 5th. But I kinda doubt he can keep it up for 20+ games.

that Lebron's raw avgs are lower only because of the 1 min difference in court time and Durant taking 3 more shots and 2 more FT's per game. If you look at their rates going into last nights showdown....

    LBJ is

    - less dependant on FT's

    - better rebounder

    -better playmaker

    - flat out putting the ball in hoop at basically a .070 % points higher

To make the PPG gap look better, all LBJ has t doo is take an extra 2-3 shots or Durant take 2-3 less shots. With Westbrook back, Im betting on the latter to happen before LBJ would ever think about chucking (he only avg around 15 shots per game for most of the season).

    LBJ coming for that MVP

Kevin Durant holds WS, PER and other stupid pointless stat leads aswell.
I don't really give a **** about the MVP award, it's pointless anyway, why the **** am I arguing about it.
All that matters is who wins the championship, LeBron solidifies himself as top 9 with a third title, Durant becomes the best player in the league with his first title, this is all that matters, you play the game to win. I'm out

But speaking strictly about MVPs, Durant is the easy sell, the easy narrative due to voter fatigue. As long as there's a good argument for both, Durant has a higher chance of winning it. LeBron needs to be even more exceptional than usual to win it this time around - he needs to turn an argument into a foregone conclusion.

I'm not saying he should score more points, but securing higher rebounds and assists per game, plus being the number one seed in the East (or even better, finishing with a better record thank OKC, but I doubt that happens) would seal the deal. Then the case for Durant would be very thin. He'd only have the scoring, a few games, and the without Westbrook/without Wade comparison going for him...

You're all acting as if LeBron will keep playing like he did the last month, and Durant will keep dipping. Yet in January you were all acting as though Durant would keep playing like this and LeBron would stay behind. The truth is, it's a long season. There are runs, up and down stretches. What will matter is what the complete picture looks like at the end: the averages, the stats, and the final impression. Until then, it most definitely is a race.

Durant playing more minutes than Lebron doesn't hurt his case, it strengthens it. You're not valuable to your team sitting out. Its like when people say that a players case for MVP has grown when they sit out and the team loses... ... Nah, they would have had a chance to win if he was out there, playing like the possible MVP.

I'd still give the MVP to Durant at the moment.

The fact that Durant has to play that extra time just gives him more ground to win the MVP.

Im saying the extra 2 minutes is giving his raw stats a little extra padding and it shows clearly in their rebound and ast rates where lebron is better. If lebron plyed that extra 2 minutes per games his raw stats would be like

    28-29 pts 8 rbs 7 ast

LOL, the same people who keep harping on how the MVP means nothing, and its a pointless award are the ones that post most about it, and seem most invested in making sure certain players win and others don't.

There is a simple reason for their actions, and its because they actually know that the MVP is the most prestigious and highly acclaimed award in the NBA, bar none.
It is the pinnacle of what you want to achieve individually as a player.

Durant simply doesn't have the impact and relies too heavily on soft officiating.

Yeah, but Durant is statistically better, plays more, and hence is more valuable.

Bron isn't valuable when he is off the court. The fact he has missed a couple games, and he plays less minutes works against his case.
