Shohei is a legit nut job. Of course 50/50 happens in one of the best games anyone has ever had at the plate. Poetic.

    But Lindor though.

But Lindor what? He's been hurt. Mets lost 2 out of 3 to the Phillies after he got hurt but haven't lost since so Lindor's officially out of the MVP race. Might as well give it to the guy that plays DH. I guess padding your stats in a 20-4 romp in a stacked lineup is important. Couldn't have won without him today.

The crazy thing is that there’s literally enough time left for him to get 60/60 if he wants.

And here’s a fun fact: Shohei didn’t hit his first homerun till the 9th game of the season this year

There is no such thing as padding stats in baseball. Every single player is trying to do the absolute best they can in every single plate appearance they have.

Bonds was better at both but never at the same time.

I like the Brewers. Civale has quietly gotten back on track getting away from being an extreme flyball pitcher. They have a lot of ways to beat you.

There is padding stats. I'm watching Pete Alonzo do it for the Mets all year long, in garbage time he hits HRs and gets hits. Meanwhile in a close game he strikes out. It is what it is though, Ohtani is easily someone I will root against because some dude playing DH gets a million steals. When he isn't batting, he could be taking naps. It's a nice luxury.

Padding stats implies that someone is improving their numbers when it’s detrimental to certain other areas. A guy jacking 3s to get to 50 points while ignoring everyone else and not playing defense is stat padding.

A baseball player is inherently never in a position to do things like that. But if you are considering that..shohei has a .735 OPS on the year when the game is more than 4 runs in either direction. Over 1.000 in pretty much every other situation. 1.100 with 2 outs and RISP.

Lindor is at .916 with the game more than 4 runs either way. By far the highest for him in any situation.

    So yea..

Another way to look at it is... Shohei is doing big numbers inside that 12 month tj recovery window every other pitcher in the game would be inactive.
