Default Mid-range kings do most of the winning in 3-pt era (CP3, Booker, Kawhi, KD)

And guys like Duncan, Kobe, Pierce, and Dirk did most of the winning before that

Threes are just threes, while 2-pointers are BASKETBALL, so the best 2-point players will always win

So you know what that means - today's game continues to prove that the goat mid-range and 2-point player would win all the rings today (MJ)

If CP3 Loses: 3ball says "See, high 8+ APG ball dominators like CP3 and LeBron mostly lose in the playoffs"

If CP3 Wins: 3ball says "Mid-range kings like CP3 dominate in today's era, which means MJ would also win in this era"

Dude already hedged his bets with CP3

It's true though. When the 3's aren't falling players typically go to the midrange given the fact it's generally harder to get to the basket.

even Lebron's 2016 ring had a high-scoring player that was elite from mid-range (kyrie).

Kyrie also carried the Cavs to their only win in the 2017 Finals (40 points for Kyrie)

Weird thread to make after the Suns went 20 of 40 from three last night, over half of their point were three pointers. Booker had 7 threes.

Kawhi has won once in 7 years. CP3 and Booker until this season never made an NBA finals, one of them being 36 years old.

And Kelvin Durant needed to ride Stephen Curry's coattails. Mid range doesn't seem like it's effective after all.

I think this is an overly simplistic way of looking at it. Three pointers are a weapon just like mid range jumpers are and just like layups are. As you point out, FMVPs have been big men as well as perimeter shooters. I have a hard time buying that Curry and Klay's three point sharpshooting didn't massively contribute to the Warriors' success.

For this year's finals, I think the Suns are just a better team than the Bucks. If the Bucks had just a little bit more depth, they very well could be up 2-0 instead of the Suns, and then you could make the case that strong paint dominators like Giannis do most of the winning. Bottom line is that I don't think one set of ranges has primacy over the others. Different teams have players skilled at one range or another, and how well they implement a solid game plan around there strengths determines how much winning they do.

If you have a Jordan, you have a mid-range-centric game plan. If you have a Shaq, you game plan around the paint. If you have Curry and Thompson, you play three point ball.

Kawhi would of won in 2015 as well but another midrange king eliminated him (chris paul). Then Duncan was like 49 years old in 2016. You had to cheap shot Kawhi in 2017, eliminated you in 2019.

Mid range kings own the league

    2014 - kawhi
2015 - chris paul but he got injured
2016 - this is the only outlier year but curry's 3's still choked
2017 - Kawhi until the warriors injured him, then Durant
    2018 - Durant
    2019 - Kawhi
    2020 - Anthony Davis
2021 - Chris Paul and Booker
