Tmac was already having back issues as far back as the 2003 season. That's why he never experienced that level again. Why would his game suffer when several other notable guards( Kobe, Iverson, Nash, Arenas, Ray Allen) experienced major jumps in production pre-rule change to post-rule change? There's no reason his game wouldn't have benefited if healthy: a more natural shooter than Lebron and Wade, more athletic than Durant, good ball-handler and passer.

The guy averaged( rounded) 27,26 and 32 in 2001,2002, 2003 on nearly 46% shooting. Don't you think it's odd that his percentage suddenly nosedived to 41% around the same time someone like Iverson went from 40% to like 45 and career scoring highs, at 30 years old? Tmac's body couldn't withstand the rigors of NBA ball and he declined, but it's pretty obvious the kind of player he would have been without the injury bug.

Guys I know tmac played in the modern Era. But the iteration of this modern Era is different from 2000 to 2008.

League was still based around big men and penetrating wings. There wasn't as much switching as now. The only guy who was implementing this was done Nelson.

Tmac had injuries that robbed him. He was a nightmare offensively to guard. He actually was a better athlete than kobe while being 6 8 and 215. Defensively he could have been elite.

Vince Carter was the freak SG athlete but tmac was more fluid and faster.

BTW can we give credit to Don nelson...his small ball Def influenced teams like golden state.

I think its more than obvious that Tmac's game would flourish in this era if healthy.Talent was never the issue with him, moreso leadership skills, work ethic, intangible qualities that made the difference in how his career wound up compared to someone like Kobe( and of course, health). He'd probably still be in the league now as a decent roleplayer if his body hadn't failed him.

TMac had a great 6-7 year run and was one of the best, most versatile scorers we've seen.

He's also 15th for career postseason BPM, for all those who think he was some sort of choker. Kobe is 40th.
