Default Why do the Mavs bring in so many underwhelming players?

Trying for one last shot with Dirk?

In the last few years they've brought in JaVale McGee, Chandler Parsons, Raymond Felton, Devin Harris, Wesley Matthews, J.J. Barrea, Tyson Chandler, Monta Ellis, Charlie Vellanueva, Zaza Pachulia, Jameer Nelson, Amare Stoudemire, Brandon Wright, Jose Calderon, an old Vince Carter, Samuel Dalembert, Chris Kaman, an old Elton Brand, Darren Collison, and O.J. Mayo.

Has any other team gone through that many jabronis? Trying to squeeze blood out of a rock before Dirk retires?

The one guy who had a chance to make a real difference was Rajon Rondo, but that didn't work out.

And admittedly, Deron Williams has been better than anyone expected.

That said, good for them for doing well so far.
