Current Hornets are using original Hornets records
Doesn't make sense at all.
I didn't realize this until yesterday. I thought they were just taking the name, but they are taking all their history.
I'm not sure where this leaves the Pelicans. Are they co-sharing the original Charlotte Hornets too? Or are they starting from scratch like a new franchise?

Yeah, it's pretty stupid. The Bobcats-Hornerts are a different franchise than the one that formed in 88 and has moved around.

This whole Hornets-Pelicans thing is confusing as hell.

All Charlotte history is staying with Charlotte while all New Orleans history stays in New Orleans.
That means:
Charlotte Hornets history:
Charlotte Hornets (Old)
Charlotte Bobcats
Charlotte Hornets (New)
New Orleans Pelicans history:
New Orleans Hornets
New Orleans Pelicans
It is admittedly weird to see Gerald Wallace making numerous appearances amongst the Charlotte Hornets all-time leaders.

Apparently, they now have 9 Playoff appearances instead of just the one they mad a few seasons back, lol.
Where is Bobby Phills jersey at? In New Orleans or in Charlotte?

Pelicans. The Pelicans, which are the original Charlotte Hornets keep all it's history, but just from 2002 on ...
These current Hornets now have the original Hornets from 88-02 franchise, which is F-N stupid. To go along with the Bobcats 04-14 franchise.
So if they decide to retire Alonzo Mourning's jersey, it will be in Charlotte and not in New Orleans.

NO should concede those years to Charlotte IMO. They should start from scratch, they have a very good team and they have a whole new identity.

You could even say, how about the New Orleans Jazz? They had like 5 seasons there before moving to Utah, prime Pistol Pete and all... Utah "owns" those years though, even with Maravich's retired jersey (should be retired in Nola too)... Guess NO can't have a thing

I don't mind it. While the owners and the management is different, what's more important IMO is the team's history with the city and the fans.
I don't think the fans from Charlotte really cared that George Shinn or whoever was the owner, but that they did care for that team.
That said, I think it's a case to case basis. I wouldn't lump the Minnesota Lakers with the Timberwolves for example, but in this case, I think it makes sense since it's exactly the same city and the same name.

I don't think Zo would find that a bad thing, considering he never played a single season in new Orleans.

Re: Current Hornets are using original Hornets records
This doesn't seem like it should be confusing or an issue at all.
The city gets the history. So Charlotte gets their Charlotte history. How did the Browns do it?
I would assume that you get all the Charlotte teams' records since it is just the Charlotte franchise. So according to them they were the Hornets. Then had a couple years off, then were the Bobcats and are the Hornets again.
For NO they should be a separate franchise. So they get their playoff records with CP3 and such to their record since that was done in NO.

Re: Current Hornets are using original Hornets records
Does it really matter? Neither has done shit.
If it was Milwaukee that has a couple of titles it would be a different story.

Re: Current Hornets are using original Hornets records
it's not stupid because this is what Ballmer was told would happen if he brought the Sonics franchise tag back to Seattle. As long as you use the trademarked NBA name, all the records go with it. It's only weird because they are in essence the Bobcats, who haven't done shit. But either way, neither team has accomplished anything so why not?
