Default Cheapened records: Good, bad, or indifferent?

The goofiest part of this to me is that he was almost guaranteed to break this record eventually. He averages 31 and there are 17 games to go.

Generally bad, but in this case this particular record is pretty meaningless so I'm indifferent on that point. It does reveal something about SGA's character that we previously didn't know before.

pretty much every day there are multiple things that have rarely or never been done. Means little anymore. All you can do is compare it with this year not with history

Justin Kubatko: Prior to this season, no NBA player had ever recorded at least 150 assists, 150 blocks, and 100 3P made in a season. Chet Holmgren became the first player to reach those marks, and fellow rookie Victor Wembanyama is one 3P made away from joining him. 🔗 statitudes.com pic.twitter.com/QLNXfCL2Im

This. You cannot compare these records with former records of past eras because the rules are so different. The only insight it gives is who are the best players nowadays, because they are all playing within the same rules, but we can't make any conclusions about players from years ago.

Luka has averaged a 35 pt triple double for the last 25 games, the only player ever to do it.

These are meaningless records anyway but I guess it's fun to break them. What's wrong with players having fun?

Tim MacMahon: Mavs C Daniel Gafford’s streak of 33 consecutive made field goal ends with a missed putback attempt. Only Wilt Chamberlain (35) has had a longer streak in NBA history.

Something 'extraordinary' needs to happen every other day to keep up with the rest of the world outside basketball where 'extraordinary events' are all over the place. It's just an endless cry for attention and not basketball related. We live in a 'culture' that tries really hard to believe in 'progress' and that we are living in the best of times, the 'most interesting' ever. In reality it's just very competitive for every 15 seconds of attention.

After a while you become indifferent to all these 'records'.
