The IST doesn't mean anything for LEGACY
Obviously people are getting their fun trolling in, but as a Lebron fan, I'll be disappointed if people actually try to float this IST MVP/CUP on his basketball resume in the future...these are regular season games that occurred in November/December .
500K being meaningful to some random NBA scrubs has nothing to do with someone's basketball legacy. The IST was legit only entertaining because Lebron was at the forefront. If the IST game was Pacers/Pelicans, NO ONE would be talking about it...and that's because deep down everyone knows this shit is just a feel good marketing ploy to make these early regular season games slightly more interesting.
If anything, the Lebron stans should just accept this as a fun footnote in Lebron's career because if it's actually celebrated to the level of full season MVP awards, FMVPs, and even 1st team all nba achievements...then you are actually watering down Lebron's career and making a mockery of it.

Re: The IST doesn't mean anything for LEGACY
Everyone is being super short sighted on this thing for some strange reason. It was deemed a success, which basically means it's not going anywhere, especially if it's a thing Silver is trying to package as it's own product like I saw in a thread here. So going forward people are going to win them, they will pile up and be worth whatever fans decide they are worth. When Mikan was winning titles in the 50s you think people thought 70+ years in the future people would argue who the greatest player was based on them? When Jerry West won the 1st Fmvp did anyone think it would be such an important award for ones legacy in the future? Of course not, it was 1st time. At some point these things will have a decided worth attached to them. They obviously aren't NBA titles, but they are the winners of a tournament.

NBA rookie of the year
Re: The IST doesn't mean anything for LEGACY
He's 40 and just put up 27/7/7 on 75% TS in a competitive tournament
It illustrates he's still an MVP caliber player in his 21st season.
The award itself doesn't mean much in the grand scheme, but what it represents for LeBron is enormous
Greatest athlete of all time by a huge margin.

All time scoring record
1st team all-nbas
championships
MVPs
FMVPs
All of that count for more in a straight up comparison. We don't count the IST MVP as something that moves the needle much on its own.
However LeBron being close to 39 years old, year 21 and being a top 5 player DOES mean something for his legacy and this IST MVP highlights it. Nobody in the history of basketball has ever played this good at age 38/39, year 21. No player aged 39 has ever made all-nba team. That matters.

Re: The IST doesn't mean anything for LEGACY
Two points. In 1969, we would be saying that FMVP means nothing.
If money is a consideration, the Lakers got more for winning this stupid tournament than the Nuggets got last year for winning the finals.
It’s too early to say whether this tournament will even survive, much less what it might mean for anyone’s legacy. Just remember, in the early 60s, the big college tournament was the NIT, and the NCAA tournament was comparatively meaningless. What will happen with the IST? None of us know.

Re: The IST doesn't mean anything for LEGACY
Winning the IST is comparable to winning an all star game.
To pass up Jordan, Lebron still needs 3 more FMVPs, and the Bronie fluffers know it.
