Does the NBA need a "Lebron James BITW Award"?

The league recently came up with all these new awards named after retired players, which is problematic because the greatest player to ever play the sport is still active, in his 21st season.

I think it would be appropriate to establish the Lebron James "Best In The World" Award, given annually to the player recognized as best in the world. This would be a separate award from MVP, which is often driven by narratives and voter fatigue. The MVP award would still exist, the LBJ BITW award would just be selected separately. Sometimes to the same player, sometimes not.

For instance in 2012 you could award Lebron James the MVP and the BITW. But in other years for example you could award Derrick Rose the MVP, and Lebron the BITW. Or you could award Kevin Durant an MVP, and Lebron a BITW. Perhaps you give Steph the MVP, and Lebron the BITW. There could be a situation where Giannis gets the MVP, Lebron gets BITW. Or maybe Joker receives an MVP, Lebron receives BITW. Embiid is awarded MVP, Lebron crowned BITW.

Do you guys understand the concept? We keep the MVP award for when we wanna recognize a guy who tried really hard and had a super year by his standards, and maybe his team did unexpectedly well. But then we also recognize the player who is actually the true league consensus BEST player in an overall context.

I have someone in mind, but I'm not going to reveal it just yet. I'll keep it a bit of a mystery until we get a few more opinions.

the finals mvp is called the bill russell award. i say they award a trophy to the best player on the losing team in the finals, call it the lebron james award.
