Why is Chris Paul shooting THIS bad?

In theory, shooting is the last thing to go as you age. Yet here we have Chris Paul.

He was a pretty good shooter all his career. Not like Curry or Durant but very respectable. What just happened?

I read that Julius Randle had the worst shooting percentage through however many games he has played that anyone has had since the 1950s. I’m confident he’s not going to finish the season shooting like that. Neither will Paul.

that said, he has often been an off the dribble pull up specialist. Might be a bit of an adjustment changing his role.

he’s gotten super old. when you are chris paul’s size scoring gets a lot tougher as you age. i think if you look at his fg percentage from the past few years it’s gone from high 40’s to low 30’s I wanna say. and he’s role has been to purely facilitate and set up guys on the warriors second unit. scoring is the furthest thing down on his priorities right now. that being said no one here has been the slightest concerned with his scoring. he’s been playing excellent still. it’s only a few games in but i’m pretty sure he’s on pace to shatter whatever the highest Assist/TO ratio in one season is

Sure, he is not there to make shots. But I've seen 3 or 4 Warriors games this season and he is missing wide open shots. He is at 9-10 attempts per game which is perfectly reasonable. But 8%? And he is missing wide open shots from the FT line to the elbow, too. I've never seen shooting go away this fast.

As kblaze said, it's hard to imagine he will finish the season this way.

Almost certainly a sample size thing.

Last year at this time Kevin Huerter was the league’s best shooter by the numbers. This year, he’s one of the worst.

Age may play a small gradual role like wf said and like kblaze said adjusting to a new situation and maybe some nerves playing a part. But I dont see any tangible factor causing him to shoot THIS bad. Likely just the coincidence of a small sample size.

He's playing well but shooting like shit. If he and Wiggins (whose shooting and playing like shit) start getting to their normal averages, then the offense can finally look good. Right now it's basically Steph and whoever decides to get hot enough for the night. Team needs more.

He's always been a good shooter so he'll pick it up. But they are winning and while I haven't watched too much warriors, he's prob doing a good job getting open looks for the role players

He is playing OK. Not great not terrible.

He's up there for 6MOTY for sure, but the team needs his shooting to get better. Too many bricklayers in the team right now.

Gs bench scoring like 45mpg this year and most of the guys outside Paul play 20mpg and none of them are a clarkson Jamal Crawford type. Add on they’ve defended pretty well and it’s a game changer vs the other contenders who mostly have bad benches

It’s fair to say it’s early and he could be off to a slow start but



His FG% already took a significant hit last year. He’s getting really old. I expect him to bring it up over 40 but it’s not gonna be much higher than that.

17 last night on 67%FG highest +/- on the team behind Curry. The warriors have been crushing teams with Paul in the game.

He's old & his jumper has been inconsistent for years now. They're still crushing teams offensively with him on the court with how great of a playmaker he is though. The 2nd unit has looked much better than it did last year and that's with him struggling to make shots thus far.
