Gary Payton Defensive Highlights | 1996 NBA Finals
First time I watched the NBA Finals was back in 1996 when I was 10 going 11 years old. Gary Payton held Michael Jordan to 27.3 ppg on 41.5%.
Sonics could have been the next NBA Dynasty if they didn't traded Shawn Kemp to Cleveland.

Alarming how much stronger he was than Jordan while being smaller. Just bullied him all series. Bulls were stacked to the gills tho, Rodman robbed of FMVP

true. I also remembered him blocking MJ in that series.

Re: Gary Payton Defensive Highlights | 1996 NBA Finals
The youtube channel "Nobody Touches Jordan" did a video of Payton guarding MJ in Game 4 of 1996 Finals (link here) - MJ was doubled exactly 10 of the 20 times he caught the ball with Payton guarding - all 10 double-teams are shown if 8080gifs here:[/B]
So it wasn't just Payton defending Jordan - it was the whole team and Jordan had 2 poor-shooting games (4 and 6) AFTER he had already locked up the series with a 3-0 lead.. Meanwhile, Pippen averaged 11 on 28% during the same time period

MJ dominated that series with 27 ppg, while Lebron only needed 25 ppg in the 13' Finals and a near-equal-scoring partner (Wade averaged 20), along with 7 games and teammate bailout (Allen).
So MJ's worst Finals was far superior to Lebron's 2013 Finals
Ultimately, MJ defeeated max defensive attention (carried scoring load on championship level), while Lebron never has.. MJ beat a top 5 SRS team with poor scoring and efficiency from a sidekick, while Lebron never did (no carry-jobs vs top teams in 2 decades)

Lebron was the first player to beat the Spurs in the NBA Finals. Jordan beat a bunch of weak sauce teams in the NBA Finals

No shame in playing a bit below typical levels against a guy nicknamed The Glove.
Playing far below typical against a guy only half a foot taller than OP, now that is embarrasing.
