Stephen Curry set a record during Sunday’s Game 7, and so did ABC.

The Golden State Warriors’ victory over the Sacramento Kings drew 9.8M people, according to Nielsen. That makes it the most-watched NBA Playoffs first round game in 24 years.

The broadcast peaked during the 6 p.m. ET quarter hour with an audience of about 11.9M viewers.

According to ABC, it’s also the most-watched NBA Playoffs first round ever for Disney ranking as ABC’s largest audience for a non-finals postseason game.

The audience was up 18% versus last year’s Game 7.

Across 15 games, the first round averaged 4.5M viewers, also up 18% from last year.

The Warriors emerged victorious, winning 120-100 against the Kings. Curry scored 50 of those points, which is the most ever in a Game 7.

Sunday’s Warriors-Kings first round NBA playoff Game 7 averaged 9.84 million viewers on ABC, marking the largest first round playoff audience since Kings-Jazz Game 5 on NBC in 1999 (11.21M), and the largest first or second round audience since Raptors-Sixers Game 7 on NBC in 2001 (11.17M).

As with all multi-year highs, keep in mind that out-of-home viewing was not included in Nielsen final nationals prior to three years ago.

Viewership jumped 27% from Warriors-Grizzlies Game 1 in the same window last year (7.71M). Ratings were not immediately available.

The Warriors’ win, which peaked with 11.93 million viewers from 6-6:15 PM ET, averaged more viewers than all-but-one game prior to the Finals last season. Game 7 of the Celtics-Heat Eastern Conference Finals averaged 9.88 million. It ranks 14th among basketball games in the past year, behind last year’s Celtics-Heat and six NBA Finals games, five games in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament and the LSU-Iowa NCAA women’s basketball national championship (9.92M).

The kings were young and I think they took the league by storm. It was the Webber and jwill days. I was a big fan of Webber back in the day and they played a sexy brand of basketball. I think game 5 went to OT as well
