Congrats to Jason Tatum with the NBA scoring title
The most total points scored
I for one will not respect a 66 game scoring title.

Titles are overrated
Re: Congrats to Jason Tatum with the NBA scoring title
Kareem was annoyed they didn’t give him one when he led in total points but Elvin Hayes or Jerry west led in ppg. He and others argued…then nobody cared for 50 years.

Is that why you consider Lebron the GOAT scorer too?

PPG means a lot more. There's a reason why the scoring title doesn't go to most total points.

You're not a better scorer because you can average 24 points but play 82 games straight

What is that reason considering the scoring title used to be determined by total points and not ppg until the 1969 season? That's what Kblaze was referring to when he mentioned that Kareem was upset that he didn't get the scoring title his first year when he led the league in total points. They had just changed the criteria that season.

It's one thing to have one player not playing more than 66 games and leading in scoring, but the second one up, Doncic, also only played 66 games.
These guys are just giving themselves a 20% raise by skipping out on this many games.
They need to change the rules so that at least 70 games is required to win any "per game" award.

PPG only means a lot if you play enough games for it to matter.
Tatum has simply put more points in the basket in more games, thus his scoring has contributed more to winning.

I agree. That's why I'm on board with the NBA's rule about a 65-game minimum or whatever it is to win awards.

I don't think 65 games is enough if it's a statistical category. MVP and All NBA and that kind of thing, sure, but not scoring or assists or rebounds.
