Default Athletes Collapsing on the field

In recent months there have been a lot of athletes randomly collapsing due to heart related issues. The problem seems to be most prevelant in europe right now, the number of european pro soccer players that have collapsed on field from cardiac events over the past year is more than the previous 20 years combined.

    https://www.the-sun.com/sport/premie...lem-barcelona/

Is it just a random coincidence that players are suddenly collapsing from heart problems at such a high rate, or is something else going on?

How many are 'more than the previous 20 years combined'? Where is this data from?

There are several cardiac pathologies that can be masked for years if certain conditions aren't met (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, wolf-parkinson, coronary vasospasm, etc..

    https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1...aha.106.613562
    https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/full....cir.91.5.1596

The extreme demand on cardiac output required by professional athletics can unmask these diseases.

We are also in the midst of a pandemic in which post-covid folks, even athletes with no known prior cardiac conditions, are showing anomalies when they undergo a cardio magnetic resonance screen in addition to elevated cardiac enzymes.

    https://www.uptodate.com/contents/co...ource=see_link

Considering the circumstances, it's not unimaginable that cardiac events would increase if they have in fact increased to the degree claimed.

And just for op's personal interest, a passage about myocarditis induced by the RNA vaccines.

    https://www.uptodate.com/contents/co...on#H2581314898

Myocarditis — Myocarditis and pericarditis, mainly in male adolescents and young adults, have been reported more frequently than expected following receipt of the mRNA vaccines, BNT162b2 (Pfizer vaccine) and mRNA-1273 (Moderna vaccine) [264,265]. A similar pattern of cases has not been reported following receipt of Ad26.COV2.S (Janssen/Johnson & Johnson vaccine). Nevertheless, given the infrequency and the mild nature of the myocarditis and pericarditis cases, the benefits of mRNA vaccination greatly exceed the small increased risk [265].

In a review of the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS)....there were 267 reported cases of myocarditis/pericarditis following one dose of an mRNA vaccine, 827 following two doses, and 132 without the number of doses specified as of June 11, 2021 [265].

Among the cases that have been reported, most were mild [265-267]. Onset was generally within the first week after vaccine receipt, more commonly after the second dose. Most patients who presented for care responded well to medical treatment and had rapid symptom improvement.

And to close, a short passage pertaining to the hundreds that may have suffered vaccine induced injury.

Therefore, if someone is injured by vaccine, society owes that person compensation. This is the basis for the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (NVICP) [305]. This program also reduces liability for the vaccine provider and the manufacturer, since it is a no-fault alternative to the traditional legal system for resolving vaccine injury claims. With COVID-19 vaccines, another compensation system called the Countermeasures Injury Compensation Program (CICP) may be used [306].

    Have a wonderful Sunday.

So in other words, you think its a random coincidence that athletes are suddenly dropping and clutching their chests at a rate that is orders of magnitude higher than anything we have ever witnessed in pro sports?

What exactly would be defined as ''mild'' myocarditis and couldn't it lead to more serious complications for highly trained and professional level athletes in the following months?

As for the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program, how much money have they paid out so far considering there has been more than thousands of reports of adverse events? Some doctors will even claim that it's impossible to know for sure if a certain adverse reaction was directly caused by the vaccine. Senator Ron Johnson had a panel full of people that were injured or permanently disabled after they got vaccinated and none of them had any type of compensation as far as i know. Most of them couldn't even get to tell their stories to the media because they were told it wouldn't fix anything and just create even more public vaccine hesitancy.

Of course they arent, why would you even say something like that? Dont you know that the vaccine is safe and effective? You should delete this misinformation before you get arrested for being a goddamn russian.

Would you link to the study/numbers you're referring to, please?

All peer reviewed and the site mentions this.

    Conflict of Interest policy

UpToDate's policies and editorial process are designed to ensure that our content remains impartial and unbiased. To accomplish this, we collect information from contributors on financial relationships within the previous two years with ineligible companies or other organizations that have the potential to bias the content. Contributors to a topic include one or more authors, section editors, and deputy editors, identified at the top of each topic. Anonymous peer review is also part of our editorial process. Individuals who do not provide their disclosure information may not participate in the editorial process and are replaced. Disclosures of relevant financial relationships from contributors are displayed via a link at the top of each topic.

Deputy editors are physicians who work primarily at UpToDate. The deputy editors themselves cannot have any active financial relationships relevant to the topics they edit. Any financial relationships within two years of employment are included via a link at the top of their topics. In addition, deputy editors may not accept funds from "educational" arms of health industry organizations (such as speakers' bureaus).

A primary responsibility of the deputy editor is to prevent inappropriate material from being published in UpToDate topic reviews. The deputy editor on a topic works to ensure that any possible author and editor conflicts are appropriately evaluated and mitigated. The Editor-in-Chief appoints a Conflicts of Interest Committee to review issues as they arise. Methods of mitigation, as directed by the Conflicts of Interest Committee plus the Editor-in-Chief, include peer review, revision or elimination of content, and/or replacement of contributors.

Possible conflicts are also addressed through requirements for references to be provided to support the content. Appropriately referenced content is required of all authors and must conform to UpToDate standards of evidence.

Contributor disclosures are collected annually and reviewed for relevant conflicts of interest by the editorial group. When found, the deputy editor on the associated topic(s) and the Conflicts of Interest Committee work to ensure that all relevant financial relationships have been evaluated and mitigated. These methods are part of our normal editorial process as discussed above.

This policy was last reviewed on November 8, 2021.

Mild myocarditis can range from asymptomatic (discovered only by an incidental echo, elevated labs, ekg usually discovered during hospital visit) to presentation with mild chest pain, shortness of breath and/or arrhythmia most commonly. It's unknown what the effects of mild myocarditis are long-term.

    https://www.myocarditisfoundation.or...f-myocarditis/

Many bugs can cause myocarditis including adenovirus (common cold) and covid, it's just not really talked about because it's often doesn't result in a clinical case.

Thousands of reports via vaers does not equal thousands of actual cases. Vaers works on the honor system, meaning they don't verify if a person actually experienced their reported symptoms. With the current political climate being what it is it wouldn't surprise me if some reports were fabricated.

NVICP and CICP will require proof of injury i.e. a patient workup before payout, not just a self-report.

As for "some doctors will claim it's impossible to know..." It can be difficult to discern injury from vaccine and injury from virus when the symptoms overlap, but most adverse reactions are pretty obvious and recognizable.

Severe side effects that we watch for with any vaccination such as anaphylaxis due to an allergic reaction to an ingredient, bleeding disorders due to genetic condition, etc would evolve rapidly post-injection.

If people harmed by the vaccine have a story to tell and are being suppressed then they should approach a respected news outlet and not a politician. PBS and NPR are two reliable outlets that would hear them out.

This is a pertinent question. They could also be entirely unrelated.
