After the team lost the Saint for eight games and going 1-7 without him the Warriors were in an uncertain position. They had fallen out of the playoffs group and were slipping even further away. Was it still worth pressing on or would it be better to turn back and tank? With these questions swirling, the Saint returned from his time in the desert. Hard to say what happened to him there but something seemed to be different.

In another blow just before the contest, the weary Dubs had just lost for the year Wiseman the player they had selected with their number two pick prior to the season and whom the team had nurtured all year. Were the Warriors toast?

Not if the Saint had anything to do with it. From the start he pushed eclipsing a Warriors standard that had stood since ancient times—and then he kept pushing putting up 53 points in 36 minutes. In the face of such determination the Nuggets could not hold and broke—even led as they were by a player who it is said most people widely believed was the leading MVP candidate.
