The thought that a kid coming out of HS could just force his way to the Lakers . Kobe worked out with a bunch of teams and impressed Jerry West, who made sure the Lakers got him in a trade.

Of course he's going to make sure the other team doesn't draft him once West tells him he's going to be a Laker. Imagine being a teenager and having a Laker great tell you he wants you on the team.
