Why do refs treat Harden so differently?

I'm wondering if there has been anyone to confront the league, or even just the officials, about what has been an openly known problem for years.

Harden gets preferential treatment. Literally everyone hates it. It takes away from the NBA product in the eyes of fans. Other players and coaches hate it.

Why does it work? Why is it allowed to continue?

Shaq-elbow to the face/ribs
Steve Francis- Carry
Bruce Bowen- Undercutting jump shooters
Lebron- travel/charge/stiff-arm
James Harden- 3 step-step back

However, Harden actually can score without cheesing for fouls. We've never seen a dude stick the ball out like that and bait players to reach across his arm.

It's lame af, but smart teams/players know how to deal with this come playoffs.
