The eventual pool of external candidates could include, according to people in the league, former Cleveland Cavaliers GM David Griffin, Denver Nuggets President Tim Connelly, New Orleans Pelicans interim GM Danny Ferry, Boston Celtics assistant GM Mike Zarren, Oklahoma City Thunder vice president Troy Weaver, Houston Rockets vice president Gersson Rosas and Utah Jazz assistant GM Justin Zanik.

Andy Larsen: Favors and Korver remain out for the Jazz vs. Sacramento. Jae Crowder is probable. Ricky Rubio and now Raul Neto (ankle soreness) are both questionable

    Conley a better fit

Everyone knows that the Jazz are looking to upgrade from Ricky Rubio at point guard. Not that Rubio is a bad player, but for a team that is already offensively limited, a player like Rubio, whose PER this season is 14, Offensive Win Shares is 0.9, and who shoots 38% from the field, does not really help them.
everyone but the Jazz apparntly. Would be easy to upgrade if they were looking to do it yet here he is still when he never made any sense

Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert had never listened to jazz music before Thursday night, but he had good reason to. The Jazz organization on Friday morning began a campaign for the Frenchman to be voted the NBA

Sources close to Utah Jazz assistant Alex Jensen, a former University of Utah star who has been with the Jazz since 2013, said Thursday that Jensen wants it to be known that he is not a candidate for the BYU job. Jensen did discuss the opening with BYU athletic department administrators last Saturday, as The Salt Lake Tribune reported, but the talks did not progress beyond that.

His voice on the court was missed for the second consecutive game because a right hip pointer kept Patrick Beverley out of action for the Clippers. He is considered the heart and soul of the Clippers, their engine that makes them go, but he cannot go right now because his body first betrayed Beverley in a game against Minnesota on March 26. The Clippers have two games left in the regular season, at Golden State Sunday and at Staples Center against the Utah Jazz Monday, and then it

    https://www.slcdunk.com/2019/4/6/182...l-and-ostertag

And yes, Ostertag was an important component of those teams. Defensive Box Plus-Minus (DBPM) has its limitations (Basketball Reference explains them here), but over those two years Utah went to the Finals, he was 24th in the league in that metric. In the 1998 postseason, he had an NBA-leading 6.6 DBPM.

For his career, Ostertag averaged 11.4 rebounds, 9.6 points and 3.5 blocks per 75 team possessions.
too bad SLoan and most fans didn't appreciate what they had. Better than Eaton by a mile

But I actually think a combo forward would help Utah even more than a point guard upgrade. Think about how good starters-with-Jae Crowder lineup is, then mentally sub in Danilo Gallinari for Crowder (the Los Angeles Clippers may be interested in trading for cap space this summer).
defense gets worse. a starting 4 is the biggest need but I'm still not sure anyone out there is a better fit than Conley

Generally speaking, a 3/4 type who can force defenses to come out of the paint is what I think Utah should be aiming for.
A 4 should also be at the top of their draft list too even if he spends the year in the Gleague
