I think the determining factor was the playoffs. Right or wrong, major awards don't tend to go to players on teams that miss the postseason. As it stands, Gobert and MKG were the only players from non-playoff teams to finish in the top 15.

I hope this pisses Gobert off and he starts next season just annihilating people. He's got what no other player has: rue hunger.
