The sudden non existance of handchecking and illegal defense (zone defense is allowed today afterall)......

Zone defense turned the NBA into college ball with all that team defense & team offense and jumper settling/chucking, the rare times the zone defense is initiated today is always/only against specific star player to specifically bottleneck the superstar scorer (ie. Lebron, Durant)... a star cant control the game like he used to, he has to play against 5 guys, i simply liked when you had to guard your man straight up and go up against one guy straight up... one mans offense against one mans defense....

Guess what im trying to say bring back the NBA as it always was before 00s.... which includes the trashtalking, player emotion, etc...

Yet, teams seldom run zone. Why? I would say because at this level, players are just too good to guard an area instead of guarding a player. But with the emphasis on the 3 point game, the floor has never been spaced better. Not to mention, no hand checking allowed which gives players more freedom of movement. That is why today is such a perimeter driven game. The rules allow more freedom of movement for wing players.

If I were a dominant wing player, I would prefer to play in today's era and face "zone" once in a while rather than have to play back in the days when tons of physical contact was allowed, you can hand check and there was less spacing on the floor.

The Star system. It happens in many other sports but the NBA is probably the worst case. They believe that they sold more tickets this way but that is ruining the competition.

it's not that i hate it, but it's kind of lame how the days of multiple 30ppg scorers are gone. a lot of the best offensive players are playing on the same teams now and guys aren't playing over 40mpg like they used to.

The way refs completely change their foul calls in the same game. Sometimes they will allow physical play for the 1st half then start calling every little contact in the 2nd, killing the flow of the game.
