They were going downhill thats why the trade for rondo. But rondo is rendered useless. Ellis wants the ball. Even their max guy(parsons) is useless because of ellis.

They thought Rondo would help, and he did slightly but he is garbage at offense making the team much worse when they were the best offense in the league. Teams sag off him and send more help to Dirk and Ellis and the dude cant even hit a freethrow.

Dallas offense, probably since at least 2003, has been highly contingent upon floor spacing. Been that way with Nick, Nash, Devin Harris, Jason Terry and etc.

When defenders get to sag off your point guard because he can't shoot anything past a 13 footer, and when you have the luxury as a defense of not rotating on the perimeter because you WANT Rondo do shoot from long range, then you're gonna trouble with penetration and floor spacing.

Rondo is the ONLY person at the point guard position in the NBA that you theoretically don't have to play defense against...

They are still the same before or after the trade. If they could flip ellis for a defender, they would be much better. Rondo playmaking is underutilized same with parsons scoring. As Ive said, they are the same as 2003 mavs where they have jamison, walker who are all offensive players.

Yeah but he doesn't shoot frequently enough for it to matter. He shoots about 1 three a game. He's also shooting 41% from the field in general. He's absolutely no threat on the offensive end and his defense isn't the same anymore.

Rondo's is in this weird position as a player tbh..

he's a great talent with supreme talent and is probably the best passer in the league, great rebounder, great defender from what I remember

but he's at his best with the ball in his hands making plays for other people, Boston had the perfect team around him, great spot up shooters who were at the point of their careers where they were OK with not being the primary ball handler/motor of the offense

plus Rondo has no perimeter game and can't shoot FTs.. please Lakers.. stay away

He was still leading the league in assists this year on a shitty Boston team though... He's not what he was, but the Mavs offense is just not a good fit.

There's a hell of a lot more wrong with the team than him... But he'll continue to get nearly all of the blame.

Rondo's missed time since getting there, and he's playing in a new system that doesn't play to his strengths, joining mid-season.

Parsons sucks and has missed a bunch of time.

Parsons and Dirk are bad defensively when they're both on the court.

Their schedule is harder in the second half of the year.

They have no bench and rely on shitty veterans like Charlie V and Stat.

If you actually believe Ellis is at fault here or is a 'cancer' then you haven't watched him as a Mav. The guy makes everything happen for us. When he was the primary playmaker, we had the best offense in the NBA by far; that's no fluke.

Since adding Rondo, Ellis is forced to play off-the ball, which isn't playing to his strengths. When Ellis does get the ball, he can't use his greatest strength which is slashing because Rondo is such an awful shooter that no one guards him within 10 feet. He is literally the worst offensive fit with Ellis in the league... plus, right before adding Rondo, Parsons was finally finding his groove and looked like a great fit with Ty, Dirk and Monta.

Ellis is legit and an all-star level player. We can win with him, but not with Rondo at PG.

Honestly, I'd be ecstatic if we did a sign and trade with the Pacers to swap George Hill for Rondo. I like Rondo the player, but he doesn't fit.
