Anthony Davis' amazing season in perspective
Keep in mind, AD is doing this at 21 years old. PER is mostly an offensive stat, and AD's defensive capabilities have never been in question.
Jordan didn't put up 30+ PER til he was 24.
Shaq didn't put up 30+ PER til he was 26.
Lebron didn't put up 30+ PER til he was 24.
AD is doing it during a year where there are a ton of players putting up really high PER's (which consequently, should make it harder to get a higher PER).
While AD currently has 32.0 PER:
KD has 27.7
Westbrook has 27.5
Harden 27.2 (LOL at the Thunder FO)
Curry 27.1
Lebron 26.1
Boogie 24.9
CP3 24.8
Jordan's best season of 31.7:
Bird had 27.8
Barkley 27.6
Drexler 24.1
Nique 23.7
Hakeem 23.4
Stockton 23.2
Magic 23.1
Shaq's best season of 30.6:
Malone 25.6
Robinson 24.9
Mourning 24.6
Hill 23.9
Kemp 23.6
Lebron's best season of 31.7:
Wade with 30.4
CP3 with 30.0
Dwight with 25.4
Kobe with 24.4
Duncan with 24.4
Roy with 24.0
Parker with 23.4
There is also so much room for AD to grow because he plays within the offense. He isn't a ballstopper, nor does he demand the ball as much as MJ/Shaq/Lebron.
If his team gets a better PG, he will score more and more efficiently. If he develops more of a post game, he will add that to whatever he's doing now. If the offense requires him to pass more, it would only boost his stats. The
Pels getting better, more ball dominant players wouldn't affect his game as much as other star players, and would in fact make life a lot easier for AD.

He's pretty much devaluing the stat had we not already known it was shit.

Those are some hardcore empty stats. Is he even one of the ten best players in the league right now? He makes Kevin Love look like he's got intangibles pouring from all his orifices.

Duncan's best was a 27.9
A lot of these numbers are wrong.

The key for Davis now is to remain injury free and consistent over many seasons.
New Orleans will recall when a 22 year old put up GOAT PG numbers in 09, and yet while still having a great career, did not maintain them.

This. Almost everyone of those players listed has that team firmly in the playoffs during the seasons listed.

I agree PER is not perfect, but we have to at least factor in how absurdly good the West is right now.
It goes a legit 10 deep and there aren't many pushover wins at all.
Given AD is playing with a poorly constructed roster and a terrible coach...I'd say getting his team in the playoff hunt is super impressive.
I don't think he's been as good as the stats suggest...and his defense is a bit over-rated in my opinion, but he's been amazing.

I don't think PER is shit necessarily, but it certainly doesn't tell the whole story.
There's really no denying he's a top 5 player though.

He's the best overall player in the league.
He has a far bigger impact on defense than LeBron has.

"Firmly in the playoffs" lol
If his team was in the Eastern Conference (it should be, it's closer to Miami and Orlando than Portland is to OKC or Minnesota, it's division mates), they'd be "firmly in the playoffs."
Stupid ass argument.

His team is ranked like 25th in defense and he has one of the best defensive centers playing with him. Empty stats to the extreme and not remotely worthy of being a DPOTY candidate.
