Aside from the obvious fact that the NFL is clearly more popular in the US, it's also because it's one game. Winner takes all. It's more of an event instead of a series that is dragged out.

NFL is the most popular league in the US and then you have the fact that being 1 game show, the winner takes it all creates an inviting atmosphere.
Being one game you can't make mistakes or have an off night, in a NBA series you can have 3 horrible games and still wins it.

nfl can't have more than 1 game in each phase of playoffs because players would be injured by the time superbowl arrives.
7 game series like in nba and mlb is the perfect playoff format. if you just like the game and not ratings then you would understand why 7 game series is the best format.

No, but this pretty much eliminates the chance of non-fans watching just for the entertainment value. If the NFL championship were a 5 game series then I'm almost sure the ratings would drop way down (on a per game basis).
