Default Andrew Wiggins Starter Kit (facts inside)

Alright, it is getting exhausting reading all the nonsense about Wiggins every time an agenda needs driving and a thread is created, there are many things that simply need to be straightened out and put in perspective so we, as a group, can post about the rookie more accurately.

1-Wolves poor record: Yes they are a bad team, but not one starter from last year is currently active, and four starters from this year's team (Pek, Brewer, Rubio, Martin) are ALL OUT INJURED, so mix this with an epic Western Conference and you are going to have a lot of losses. Also, their starting PG wasn't good enough to start for UCLA 8 months ago.

    so...

+/- , team record, etc. needs to all be taken with a grain of salt.

2-'Wiggins can't shoot': This line of thinking and this talking point should have ended, he CAN shoot and he shoots the ball well, and has great mechanics.

3- Scoring: Wiggins has scored over 20 points in 5 of his last 6 games, and done so while shooting very well. His ppg is climbing, and so too is his pct. The kid is creating offense via:

    -post up
    -3 ball
    -pull up
    -open floor
    -high post
    -step back
    -slash
    -occasionally off the dribble

He is also drawing the best defender each night so its not 'empty stats', think of it as educational stats.

4- Defense: He is drawing the top assignment each night, yes, they are scoring on him, but people score on people, it is the NBA, its not like stoppers completely lock elite scorers down, they slow them down, Wiggins needs to learn the 'tricks of the trade', but it will come.
Also, NBA teams generally play a trapping zone with man principles (amoeba defense) not the typical 1 on 1 of Jordan and Rodman's days, so a weak team defense will produce weak defenders.

5- Youth: Wiggins is 19, and he has shown great improvement already, these signs are very encouraging. Plus, the Wolves are putting a green lineup out every night, it'll be tough for them to not win, they need to be looked at like Philly at this point.
Let the kids learn on the job.
Its a learn the ropes throw away season like the 1989 Cowboys (they went 1-15 with Troy Aikmen, Michael Irvin, Moose Johnston and Jimmy Johnson and won a Super Bowl a couple years later).

6- Handles: A weak spot and somewhat of a hindrance to his offensive game, but this is something that can be improved on in the summer. There are a few posters here who like to think that handles cannot be improved, but anyone who says this is exposing themselves as someone who knows very little about the game.
Each year there are several undersized 2s who learn to play PG and do so by spending the summer working on their handles. Wiggins will get this taken care.

7- Motor and Aggressiveness: Wiggins has a motor, this is often confusing to the dimmer posters, and while he appears passive on the court he is never going to be an overtly in your face showboater, that is a black American trait that international players don't exhibit. So because he is mellow doesn't mean he is soft, he just isn't being outwardly emotive, more contained. That being said, he should go hard all the time and he needs to take this team by the balls. Judging by the past month's boxscores, this is happening.

OK, so lets all marinade on the above before we spout off tired, outdated falsities.

    hooray!

Wiggins in his rookie season already looks better than most all-star caliber players do. He's given the green light as well, so he will gain as much experience as possible and learn how to cut down his mistakes and what to improve, etc..

Dude's gonna be a great player if he puts in the work, he's already shown a lot of improvement over the year.

When was the last time a rookie had this many stans?

No player outside of Kobe and Bron has so many stans willing to write essays in support of their player.

I wouldn't call them stans, but people who believe in his potential. And think what you will of Wiggins right now, but it's unarguable that he has one of the biggest potentials in the NBA. I remember Durant during his rookie year looking like a chucker with low efficiency. And the scary thing is that Wiggins was absolutely terrible during his first games. Check his last few ones, and you're seeing a raw rookie dropping 20+ ppg on good efficiency.

Wiggins seems cool as hell because everything I've seen from his shows that he didn't come into the league with any expectations, just a solid work ethic and a good attitude.
