Default How good was Detlef Schrempf?

Was having a discussion with some friends about D-Schrempf, and they seem to have forgot how good he was. One guy said he was below average, another three said he was just average and the lat said he was above average.

One guy compared him to Tom Gugliotta and another to Keith Van Horn. I told them all y'all must be legally blind.

How good was he in the 90s' compared to his peers? Who were his peers? Who'd his closest comparison in today's league?

Schrempf was a beast! Good shooter and could handle the ball pretty well 6'10 and had a beast shot and could also post up smaller players

    indeed.... and a 3-time all-star in 95', 97', and 98'.

40% 3-point shooter... could play shooting guard.

member of Seattle's big 3 (Kemp, Payton, Schrempf) that went to the Finals in 1996.

exactly. not only he was a good shooter but a good ballhandler as well.
he was never a franchise player, but he was everytime an important piece of the teams success.
unfortunatelly he is forgotten by most

Boris Diaw reminds me of Schrempf. Except that Detlef was more aggressive and better. He did a little bit of everything well. Good second/third option to have.

He was a very solid player, and you best not leave him alone at that 3 point line. At times Ray Allen reminds me of him, but Ray is a better player over-all.

It's been a while. That Sonic team was damn good.

I would say maybe Danilo Gallinari level. Shrempf was 3rd best player on an almost championship team.

He was really good. Versatile, skilled, and a solid defender. I remember him throwing down some pretty impressive dunks too.

How good? Pretty good... 6'9 mobile forward with plenty of skill; dude was a pretty good overall shooter, he could handle and pass the rock, could post-up smaller players, rebounded at a good rate, decent defender...

Comparison in today's league? I'd say something like a mix between Danilo Gallinari, Boris Diaw or even Chandler Parsons (at their peak), and cleary overall better than any of them.
At his best, Detlef was capable of putting up something similar to 1990-1992 Larry Bird's stats.

he was the anti-lebron,one of those guys who played his game inside the team game and did not make everyone change for him. everyone games were maximized and his teammates were not taken out of their comfort zone.
