Like everyone has had Dallas in their top 5 rankings.. Most even top 4.

As a Fan you're either over confident, realistic or always a bit unsure and worried... I am just that.. So I have them "just" 5th, in a ridicilously stacked conference.

Dallas' role players got incredibly hot in that Spurs series. They took us to 7 even though Dirk had a mini-shocker.

I can't doubt Rick Carlisle though. He and Pop are by far the two best coaches in the game.

Phil did it a couple of times. Avery butt****ed him hard in 06. A few have to be fair.

But yeah, Rick and Dirk continue to do well with not much raw talent.

Either the Mavs will be a top 4 seed and WCF contender or they'll be the 8th seed again next year. All depends on how well Dirk plays and if Parsons is ready to play like a second option (though he'll really be third).

The Mavs have a lot of questions to answer before anyone can seriously consider them a contender.

Can Tyson stay healthy? What kind of impact will he have on our crappy D? How well will they execute on O without Calderon's floor spacing 3 pointers? Will they miss the veteran leadership of VC and Marion? We have a lot of PGs... will any of them not suck? How well will Parsons play in our system? Mavs need Parsons to play big time D like Marion... can he do it? (Some question a one year older Dirk's impact...not me...but some)

Mavs had a very interesting off-season and I'm excited to see how Carlise gets the team playing throughout the season. I have high hopes that by the end of the year they will be pretty damn good. But still there are too many questions we don't know the answers to at this point to pencil them in as contenders.

Lets just worry about making the playoffs in the brutal western conference.

Dallas matched up well with the Spurs...that's all that was last season. They are still going to be a terrible defensive team and terrible defensive teams don't win championships.

I would go even further by saying it's their entire backcourt rotation. Could really use some length.

Dallas has become overrated at this point, with people pegging them to finish as high as the second seed in the West, and even some, saying they should end up as the top seed in the conference. Yes, Dirk is amazing, but they still have a ton of questions, and I don't see adding Chandler/Parsons as being huge enough since they also did lose some key players off the bench in Vince and Marion from last season. Calderon was a pretty underrated subtraction as well.

I see them maxing out as the 4th seed, but most likely finishing 5th/6th. The Clippers, Thunder, Spurs and Warriors are all superior, then, you have squads like Memphis (should be fully healthy and added some actual offense) that will be there for the 4th slot as well.

One of the worst supporting casts ever in the Dirk era outplayed the Spurs, and now this season they have upgraded at the SF and C positions and have added depth at the PG spot.
