    LeBron is probably the last true post player in the league

    its just a 5 second back down rule where you cant post with your back facing the defender for more than 5 seconds.

    Because the modern NBA rules make it more efficient to play outside-in as opposed to inside-out. Even a team like Utah and Charlotte, whose best scorer is/was a post player (Al Jeff), refused to play inside-out basketball.

    It really comes down to two major factors;

    1. It's easier to double the post than it ever has been. If you know a team is going to feed the post, you can double the post before the ball even arrives, and recover on the rotation quicker as well. This wasn't possible with previous illegal defense rules.

    2. Perimeter defenders aren't allowed to defend on the perimeter. This makes spacing the floor and attacking from the perimeter (FT's) incredibly efficient. It's not a coincidence that the leagues leading scorers (Harden, Durant, LeBron, etc.) all shoot a crap load of FT's.

    The rule actually applies even if the player faces up after beginning to back down. If you start a post up, you have 5 seconds to either pass or shoot the ball. It's the most ridiculous rule ever created in the game of basketball.

    I would disagree from a pure basketball perspective. Younger players need go learn how to play team ball and pass the ball well.

    But I agree from an NBA perspective. It is a star driven league. Star players dominate the ball more often.

    That is the irony. This 5 second rule should be applied to youth games and removed from the NBA.

    Yea and I think this 5 second rule is what's discouraging players and coaches to do it as often as previous eras.
