They are similar in talent levels but Pippen's high basketeball IQ compared to Westbrook's low basketball IQ give Pippen the clear edge. An underrated reason why the Bulls won 6 rings is the high IQ of Pippen and Jordan. They weren't taking dumb contested 20 foot jumpers with 20 seconds left on the shot clock. This is not a slight to Westbrook, who may be by favorite current player after Rose and LeBron, but is a statement of the facts.

On the beta personality point, Pippen acknowledged Jordan was the better scorer and deferred to him on offense in a way that Westbrook does not vis-a-vis Durant. However, he was not a beta to Jordan. Pippen was a leader and arguably more influential in that role (to be clear MJ stans, I am talking about leadership and not being the best player). Only if he started playing after having already played with MJ. He honestly learned a lot from MJ (and vice versa).

He's admitted it openly too. He learned drive and focus from playing with MJ. MJ always demanded to play against the 2nd best player in practices. They'd compete to see who'd get the most steals in games. They'd constantly play one on one. Hell, MJ asked Pippen to teach him proper footwork for a left handed layup!

They needed each other to develop and win, yes. But it was MJ's who was really the catalyst in untapping Pippen's potential.
