Kobe has no excuse for 2006
If he was this great player top 10 or even top 5 like some crazy fans say why did he choke a 3-1 lead. Duncan led a mediocre cast to the championship in 03 why couldn't the "closest to jordan" do the same.

Great college starter
Re: Kobe has no excuse for 2006
Kwame, Luke, and Smush were in the starting lineup for the 2006 Lakers and you compare it to the 2003 Spurs?
Btw, Duncan has been on championship contenders pretty much his whole career, never had to suffer through a rebuilding process...so why only four rings in 17 seasons? This guy gets rated above Dream, Shaq, even Bird and Magic sometimes. It's laughable how much Duncan homers use 2003 as a crutch.

No excuse?
You are kidding right?
I think his supporting cast came from one of Jerry Lewis' telethons...

Because Suns were the much better team. Look at Game 6, the game they should have won. Kobe hit 2 or 3 clutch shots in a row & his teammates cost them the series by choking on the defensive end twice, which led to OT, where Suns ran a train on us.
Smush leaves Nash wide open at the corner, Nash bricks the three, Kwame Brown runs past Tim ****ing Thomas and he nails a wide open three to send it to OT.
After going up 3-1 with Kobe's epic clutch performance, we got blown out on the road in Game 5(Kobe had 29-7-5 on 59%FG), teammates couldn't get a stop in Game 6, where Kobe played out of his mind(50-8-5 on 66%TS) & we couldn't stop them on the road again in Game 7. Smush Parker cost us Game 6 with his terrible play, 42 ORTG while playing 42 minutes , 0-5 from the field with 2 points, 2 ast & 3 TO
Lakers were not favored in the series, but they did win HCA by winning 3 out of the first 4, but we choked the Game at home & we just couldn't beat them on the road again.
Kobe said that it was all about stopping Phoenix from scoring, he tried to get the defense going by involving his teammates in Game 7, but they didn't respond & Phoenix had their most efficient scoring game of the series. Kobe was the best performer in that game, while Odom, Smush & Kwame combined for 29 points on 11-37 shooting

Kobe got shat on by Steve Nash for two straight years. Embarrassing, especially considering all of Kobe's fans were saying Nash didn't deserve the MVP.

Might have helped if Kobe tried playing some defense of his own. Practice what you preach. Instead, Kobe had another typical bad defensive season(-1.2 according to Def RAPM in 2006)

What about the fact they were up 3-1 with Kobe playing poorly, also Lamar Odom was a MONSTER in that series (and that is not an exaggeration AT ALL), the "weak roster" people never mention LO.
It wasn't the greatest roster but Lamar plus their size in the front court makes them much better than people like to act. Tmac, Wade, KG those guys had HORRIFIC rosters.
Those guys would have KILLED for a Lamar Odom.

2 against 5. Like literally 2 against 5 and you expect them to win? PJ and Kobe did miracles with this team and it is time you accept it.

It'd be interesting to see a 7 game series of '06 Lakers vs '07 Cavs.
