Default Why the D'Antoni Hire just might be Genius

The guy makes chicken salad out of chicken shit.

He takes other people`s waste and turns it into treasure.

He made Amare into a top ten player
    He got Nash multiple MVPs
He made Joe Johnson one of the most sought after wing man
He made Raja Bell an elite wing player
He made Leandro Barbosa into a legit threat
He made Boris Diaw into a stat filling machine
He made Shawn Marion an all star
He made Jeremy Lin a world beater
He made Raymond Felton less fat

He is the perfect guy for this Laker squad, and helping to put these lost soul players in the position to succeed.

    Johnson
    Henry
    Farmar

    will all have career years.

True, he's pretty good in transforming players. But other than that, he hasn't delivered a championship

this is the lakers. being competitive with an undermanned roster doesn't matter to that city or that organization. they ditched brown and hired d'antoni at a time everybody was still expecting a high end contender. impossible to say if a different coach actually has any success with last year's roster but there are few who were considered who would have done worse at the helm than d'antoni did... mike brown included.

it was a crappy hire whether they win 25 games or 45 games this season.

no team has ever won a championship without at least a top 8 NBA defense.

One game erases the complete failure to utilize Howard and Gasol properly and taking one of the most talented teams in the league to the 8th seed?

    No, it was not genius.

I like this Lakers team. They're athletic and hungry to prove themselves. I fear Kobe will **** up the chemistry when he comes back.

Lakers fan expect nothing short of a championship pretty much every year, and D'Antoni is not a championship coach in the sense of bringing a championship attitude and culture to his club, with a focus on defense and a demanding, detail-oriented approach. He can make an irrelevant team relevant, but that's never been the Lakers' problem.

Why would you want to be relevant when you can get great assets in next year's draft and possibly land a coveted FA at the same time?

he's a niche coach, great at elevating certain players but also diminishes others

he didn't fit the roster last year but he's a great coach for the talent on the team this year

it wasn't the center dragging them down, that same coach (D'Antoni) didn't utilize D12 or Gasol in any way effective to help the Lakers win consistently...simple as that. run the ball through either of the bigs (who are proven scorers) and pretty sure success was imminent. instead they let Kobe handle the ball majority of the time...not even Nash, you know an assist happy player

when Kobe returns, we'll see if this upbeat play exists to produce this high-output or they lay the red carpet out for him and allow him to chuck away most of the shot clock
