Valancais for RoY
2013 Worst Coach of the Year
Give your nominee and explain why.
Dwayne Casey
- attempted to mindf*ck Jonas Valancius by playing Aaron Gray over him in fourth quarters no matter how well JV played that game
- destroyed the confidence of Terrence Ross
- allowed journeyman Allan Stinkface Anderson to chuck his way into a long-term NBA contract at the expense of developing the youth
- supposed defensive specialist with a bad defensive team
- worst offensive coach in the league, with the long 2-pointer being the shot of choice
- worst rotations in the league; attempting to match up with other team's line-up no matter how absurd the result was; going small-ball and losing 10 point leads like nobody's business
- allows DD, Gay, and Anderson to jack up long twos and shut out JV after JV scores 16 points in the first half (he took all of 2 shots in the second half as the coach didnt enforce that his players pass to their best offensive option)
- neutered the bulldog that was Kyle Lowry

Re: 2013 Worst Coach of the Year
Mike D'antoni
- Kobe, Dwight, Nash, Pau, Metta and he still can't figure out how to win.
- Dwight and Metta dedicated to defense and he still can't figure out defense.
- Makes Pau shoot 3's
- Continues to misuse Pau despite failure and past failures by Mike Brown
- 8 man rotation on a very old team
- Plays Meeks over Morris despite Meeks' poor shooting and poor defense, at least Morris plays defense.

I feel bad for that guy, he tries so hard but his decisions make no sense.

Re: 2013 Worst Coach of the Year
easily coach spo.
is basically just there as a metaphor to Lebron since Lebron can't physically be in 2 places at once..
Lebron has the final say on what this team runs, how they defend, who takes the last shot. Bron is basically the coach, the PG, the C & the teams best player.

Vinny Del Negro
- He has absolutely the worst rotations in the entire association.
- His defensive game plan is switch on every pick, even if it leaves Chris Paul guarding Zach Randolph in the post and DeAndre Jordan on Mike Conley on the perimeter.
- Halftime and time-out speech is always "PLAY HARD!"
- Doesn't back up his players to the officiating crew very often.
- Needs to figure out his minutes and let guys play extended minutes when they are playing well due to the depth. Mainly Butler & Jordan.
- Despite a 17 game win streak, Clippers may be 5th in the West record wise.

Re: 2013 Worst Coach of the Year
the funny thing is Casey is one of the hardest working coaches we've had in Toronto. Dude pores himself over game tapes, scouting reports, and defensive schemes.
His first year there was an amazing improvement defensively, granted, that's not saying much since the year before that we recorded the worst defence in NBA history.
His offensive system just simply does not work with our personnel. He is attempting to apply the same "free-flowing" offense that Carlisle uses with the Mavs, and that the Heat have used starting the beginning of last year. But this doesn't work if there is always a weak link offensively on the floor and we simply do not have the depth that teams like the Mavs in '11 did or the Heat. We will always have a guy to help off of which makes getting clean looks extremely difficult in the half court.
Which brings me to the rotations. His use of Anderson I'm really indifferent to, he's actually played extremely well this season, however, if Ross had been given an equal opportunity, who's to say he couldn't put up similar numbers or even better. Sure Anderson is the more seasoned player, and will not make as many mistakes defensively as Ross usually does, but the guy plays like a guy who's trying to get a contract, constantly jacking up contested shots. Because he's really streaky some nights he goes nuts and others he looks like a damn fool, but Casey has been rewarding him nonetheless.
The JV situation, and I speak for most Raps fans when I say this, is beyond comprehension. For the life of me I don't know why Casey has capped JV's minutes. He is already as effective as any of our bigs on defence and on the boards. WHY play Aaron Gray? Because he weighs an extra 40-50 lbs and is one inch taller? Then explain to me why a team that chooses to hedge hard on all screens would choose a SLOWER big man to play the majority of the time when you have a centre on the bench who already has some of the quickest feet at his position. It doesn't make any sense. It happens almost EVERY night. JV gets or nearly gets a double double in the first half, gets a couple minutes somewhere in the 3rd and then rides the pine while we play small ball with Amir at the 5 or we ride Aaron Gray the rest of the way.
As much as I was high on Casey when he first came to Toronto his ceiling has been reached. He is a glorified assistant who rode Dallas' defensive play in the '11 playoffs to a head coaching job and now the cat is out of the bag and he's being exposed regularly.

Re: 2013 Worst Coach of the Year
To be a little fair to Casey, Rudy Gay's whole game is settling for the long two instead of working the ball into the post or getting to the rim . It's infuriating right?
