If he were in there class then he would have the lateral movement to be a shutdown defender.

Defense has very little to do with athleticism. It's about hard work, anticipation and good instincts. LeBron couldn't stay with anyone when he first came into the league either. He got better through hard work, not because he somehow became a better athlete.

i disagree, I think Westbrook is a better leaper. Just as quick and better laterally and has bigger hands. Rose is more athletic but it isnt by much.

Let me re-word that. Watching D-Rose play defense has made me realize that for someone so quick his lateral movement on slides is very poor, EVEN when he tries.

Lebron couldn't stay with people in the league in the beginning bc he was green and gambled. He was always quick enough laterally since his 3rd year and it showed at times when he really locked in and guarded stars. Rose just seems slow in comparison even when he locks down.

Current Rose? Because this sounds more like the criticism directed at him his first couple of seasons in the league, but he's a lot better today. He lacks the consistent focus required to be called a good defender, but when he is motivated, he can be very effective. He put the clamps on both D-Will and CP3 last season. Brutally outplayed them.

I think quickness is his only advantage. Overall speed, I don't even know if that goes to Rose. Have then Race end to end and I don't know what happens.

Jordan is bigger, longer, stronger, more explosive and a better leaper while being 4 inches taller than Rose. I don't see how it is debatable. Jordan was just on another level than Rose as a physical specimen.

You may not think that height and length factor in when comparing athletes but they definitely do. When you factor that in Rose has no argument over Michael Jordan.
