Honestly Im also a Jordan fan but Kobe 81 points was better than Jordan 69 pts and its not even close.. Kobe did it in the toughest defensive era while Mike in the weakest/no defense era.. Both were impressive tho and I appreciate it as two of the best scoring performance of all time.. Kobe at #1, maybe Mike at#10..
kobe only focus on offence, unlike jordan

Re: Jordan 69 pt game vs Kobe 81 point game
uh, so let's see here... 81 > 69 and that's it... end of discussion?
what if the 81 came against a high school team, then would that make a difference?
okay, it didn't, but it did come against a 27-win team that sported a 113 defensive rating.
jordan's came against a 42-win team that had a 107 defensive rating.
oh, and jordan had 18 rebounds and 6 assists to kobe's 6 and 2 - but yeah, let's act like rebounding and assists are not part of someone's performance...
most importantly, a lot of kobe's 4th quarter points came in garbage time when the game was well-decided, whereas all of Jordan's points came when it mattered - Jordan's team needed every single point he scored.
kobe was also gunning for a high scoring number - that was obvious from the 3rd quarter... whereas jordan got all his points in the flow of the offense.
Cliffs of what we've learned itt: Jordan's performance was more impressive given that 1) his performance came against a much better team and defensive team (Cavs had 107 defensive rating to Raptors 113).. 2) none of his points came in garbage time.. 3) he had 3 times as many rebounds and assists.. 4) at no point was he gunning for a high scoring number - he got all his points in the flow of the offense.

I think is much more difficult for kobe to get 69 with 18 rebound, 6 assist than get 81.

Re: Jordan 69 pt game vs Kobe 81 point game
the title implies that we are comparing the points only.
IF you wrote jordans entire stat line vs kobes entire stat line then we can compare the rebounds and assist. but we talking about the points here.
Does someone have the 3 pointers made.. that would make a difference. Kobe higher points on higher effeciency i would go for kobe.

a) kobe scored 62 after 3 quarters before
and
b) if that 81 point game had 2 overtimes kobe would have scored 100+
You can tell yourself lies over and over again until you start believing them, but it still wasn't double OT..

Check, check and check. Plus it was against a playoff team the Bulls had defeated in dramatic fashion two years in a row coming into the game. And he did it in Cleveland. This was not a friendly environment with fans and teammates encouraging him to shoot for some modern record when no one else was playing that hard in the fourth quarter.

Re: Jordan 69 pt game vs Kobe 81 point game
I've said this before and I'll say it again...
Just the fact that Kobe was able to take that many shots in that time span is proof that the defense was horrid. He wasn't even prevented from touching the ball, whereas MJ had to go through screens to simply touch it.
On top of that, the Cavs were running MJ through screens on defense, you know.... what Kobe is allergic to playing when he's on scoring mode.
If a team even allows you to shoot that many shots in that short time span, it shows lack of defensive will. They're not even trying at denying him possessions, let alone stopping him when he does touch it.
Also overlooked is how many free throws Kobe got in that time span. So not only were they not keeping him from touching the ball, when he did touch it they were afraid of touching him because they'd get called for a foul. How the hell is somebody gonna play tough defense when half the team is already in foul trouble?
Key stats:
Kobe- 46 fga, 20 fta, in 42 minutes (the latter minutes in garbage time vs a garbage team)
MJ- 37fga, 23 fta, in 50 minutes (highly competitive game vs a playoff team rival)
Kobe was gunning, while Mj was just playing to win.
But as we've all seen time and time again, Kobe's scoring>>> team's winning. He wants to score more than he wants to win.
OH... and MJ was playing hurt btw.
