The intended purpose of shooting sleeves is to help blood circulation. The sleeve is basically an arm version of the compression socks that hospitals give pregnant women. Note I said compression socks and not the ugly footies.

In reality it has become a fashion thing. Additionally the elbow padding is being used to increase the effectiveness of "crafty veteran tricks" while minimizing the impact to one's self.

Left field:I may do a post about one of the most effective tricks perimeter scorers use to create space. If I bump my "Get to know..." thread you'll know why.

...Not everyone. Ray Allen wore it because Rip grew his fingernails and started scratching Allen. Once the series was over, his shooting percentage increased with the sleeve, so he kept using it.

tell him when he hits 100 free throws in a row he can have it. win win. he gets better at shooting and he actually works for the sleeve. by the time he gets it he probably won't want it anymore.

What it's supposed to do: Keep the shooting arm warm, prevent muscles from cramping or overstretching, and help you maintain proper shooting form.

Some players may use to it cover up their new tatts also (LeBron)

I thought Iverson originally began wearing it when coming off elbow surgery. He wore it to keep his muscles warm and to promote better blood flow or something.

Iverson originally wore it because he had Elbow Tendinitis and the sleeve helped comfort the problem.

I had tendinitis in my elbow and followed suit by wearing a sleeve when I played and it helped so much. Although your arm does sweat alot more underneath.

I have one, haven't worn it since three days after I bought it. It's supposed to keep your arm wam, but all it did was keep my arm sweaty, which then made it cold.

One kid showed up to our team practice wearing one and our coach wouldn't let him participate until it was removed.

I wear one of my shooting arm. Maybe it's phychological, but I think it benefits me. My shooting arm generally feels better with it, and it does help w/ the sweat. The notion that you want to look 'cool' if you wear one is bull. I just never got the reason for wearing it on the off arm.

I always thought it was to stop tendanitis in the elbow because it keeps it warm and tight. LeBron just started wearing one because he injured his elbow last month.

The sleeves that D-Wade, Rip Hamition, Chris Paul, and Cramelo Anthony wears have the padding on them.

Nike, Adidas, McDavid, and Jordan Brand are making the sleeves that has padding on it.

The sleeve that Iverson wears is for circulating and to keep the arm.
