Oh, and something I forgot about Sabonis' case. Even if he was healthy, he would not be a GOAT center candidate. Among all the valid or even a little weaker candidates (Wilt, Kareem, Russell, Shaq, Hakeem), he'd easily be the worst defender. In order to close the gap, he'd have to be better offensively, and I could only see him overtake Russell in that field.

Sabonis isnt even in the discussion with the top centers he would still be behind Reed Ewing Robinson Unseld Cowens Lanier Thurmond Moses ect.....

He is a player whose game does not rely on his stats, but his impact on the court. He has been a vital asset to every team he has played on because how he impacts each and every thing that goes on on the offensive end. He might not get every basket or assist on every play, but he impacts the play on it so much that doesnt matter.

This is why I like his playing so much, he doesnt need amazing numbers to have the impact he has. Im a firm believer and enjoyer of the player who is a large asset to his team but doesnt get the big time numbers

I guess his impact on the game that doesn't show up on the statsheet is why he lead his team to those championships.

I agree. I was just talking about the references about how good he'd be if he didn't get injured a lot. Some (esp. Europeans) believe that he'd be the greatest center ever.
BTW, how can you not be injured if you run the court and jump like young Sabonis did and, at the same time, you don't take good care about yourself and don't practice often (even his Soviet teammates admitted that Sabonis hated practice).

Fact is he wasn't' a dominant scorer or great player on the offensive end. He lacked the versatiliy of today's big men.

Just because he wasn't a dominant scorer doesn't mean he was one dimensional. Lacked versatility? Do you know how many versatile scoring centers are in today's game? Not much. Today's players haven't progressed on the basis of previous centers. Hell, they haven't even gotten to the same level. KAJ played 30 years ago and centers today still can't learn a simple hook shot, let alone the sky hook. McHale played 20 years ago and centers still can't develop the footwork and moves he had, let alone surpass him. Hakeem is the only one who has done that. So if you are trying to say modern centers are better, GTFO because they haven't done that. Dwight is possibly the best center in today's game, and he gets the majority of his points from dunks and putbacks from rebounds. Yeah, he's so much more diverse offensively than Russell.

Rasheed Wallace, Kevin Garnett, Dwight, Tim Duncan, Amare, Shaq all blow him out of the water.

His stats were inflated BIG TIME. He was the most selfish player ever, biggest volume shooter ever - yet no one talks about it. It took him 63 FGA and 28 FTA to score 100 points, kobe did it on 46 FGA and 20 FTA. Kobe takes 30 shots and people go crazy , imagine what they would do with Wilt who regularalyt between 40-60 shots per game.

They media says he is most versatile player in nba, the next magic johnson and that he is so valuable and that he is high iq . None of that is true. He is only good at getting charges, missing and 1 continuations, clanking long jumpshots, and going 1 direction.

His perception in the league is NOT THE NEXT MAGIC. Is he not versatile? Is he not a tall player who can handle the ball and bring it up the court? Can he not hit a 3? Can he not score in the post, rebound, or face up on a player? Nobody says he's unstoppable. Nobody even says he's a top forward. He's never been an all star. You should be in everyone's ignore lists, like you will in mine. Let's make a case for Kobe as well:

-Massive ego, who still never dominated his competition as the absolute best ones did in their time.
-Horrible decision-maker, has no problem taking 40+ shots regardless of whether he is hot or not or take 3-pt fade-aways in front of double teamming. Kobe playing for the 80's Celtics would get murdered by his teammates.
-Blew up the series against the Pistons, refusing to pass to Shaq, with the Lakers losing to the outsider.
-Won only 1 MVP.
-Missed the playoffs completely in 2005, with Odom and Butler in his team.
-He failed to lead the Lakers in any serious playoff runs during his 35 & 32 ppg seasons. Actually, he altered his game in 2005 in order for the Lakers to be competitive.
-He tried to get into Shaq's head even at the time when he was still on the rise, while
-He has yet to produce a historic Finals' series and win a Finals MVP.

Wilt took almost 50 shots a game to score 50 ppg. That is terrible. Kobe, Bron Dwight Duncan **** almost anybody could score 50 on 50. The fact that he was way taller than everyone else certainly helped his rebound rates. Now if Wilt played he would be lucky to get 30 10, plus his teammates would be so pissed because he was taking 30+ shots a night. If any of todays players played back when Wilt did they'd be considered GOAT (I mean star players).
