Jordan will always be GOAT because...

He stood in the way and prevented most of his contemporaries from getting a championship...

    Barkley
    Stockton/Malone
    Ewing
    Miller

Or surpassed them in the number of championships...

    Olajuwon
    Drexler

Lebron on the other hand... couldn't handle getting beat and losing in the playoffs... so he decided to team up with contemporaries to shortcut his way to a championship...

Maybe in some alternate history Lebron stayed in Cleveland... and every year, in the playoffs, he's battling it out with Dwyane's Heat and Carmelo's Knicks, and coming out victorious after being pushed to the limit in 6 or 7 gruelling games.

Image that... and how awesome that would have been.

In this alternate history Lebron would seriously be considered GOAT. No joke.

LeBron is playing unreal lately. Jordan and Bird did play very similar to this though.

In his 89 season Jordan average after 49 games:
    34.3 ppg, 7.8 rbs, 6.9 asts, 3.2 stls, on 54.8% shooting.

Bird in his 88 season after 49 games average:
    29.7 ppg, 9.7 rbs, 6.1 asts, on 53.1% shooting.

With that said, LeBron is killing on the 3pt line this year and still had a better FG% than Bird and Jordan. While I don't know if he'll keep it up throughout the season, it is great to watch. LBJ can't miss...until he gets on the FT line lol. It's been a joy to watch.

Jordan basically sustained this level of play or better for his whole Bulls-career. This and his accolades prevent James from dethroning him. I actually hated Jordan in the 90s and just don't care about him any more, but he is above James an I don't see a scenario for James to surpass him. James' offense game is still raw compared to Jordan.

LBJ never came close to Bird's level even now.

If Bird had mchale + Parish. LBJ has Wade + Bosh. so no argument there.
    Bird

BUT the 80's pace was more faster than it is now.

A higher pace =/= higher stats necessarily.

For instance even though Bird played in a "faster" era his rebounding % is still far higher then Lebron's. Even his career rebounding % is higher than Lebron's highest season
