Okay, that's fair enough. Explain to me this though --

Why would a team take a guy from high school whose put up some pretty common stats and who probably will lose draft stock in a couple seasons over a guy whose virutally the same age and is playing in a much tougher league and is a leading defensive player?

This situation can be compared to the 2007 NBA Draft like Kevin Durant has some Amazing Collegiate Stats compare to Greg Oden but GM's and NBA Scouts select Greg Oden as the no.1 overall pick because he is a big men and talented big men are very rare in a draft class compare to the number of great PG's and SG in an NBA Draft. Unless Ricky Rubio average at least 22.3 PPG and crown as a defensive player of the league like Allen Iverson who is a scorer in College and a 2 time Big East Defensive Player of the year I might conclude that Rubio will be the 2nd PG to be selected as the no.1 overall pick in the NBA Draft.

But we also have the history of drafting talented PG in the Euro League and in the USA the likes of Beno Udrih, Carlos Arroyo, Bobby Hurley and Roro Ukic who is one of the best player in their country who failed in their full expectation and hype. So by picking a PG in the draft you are seriously guarantee that he will be the Franchise of your team. But in a very logical sense i guest Greg Monroe will be the unanimous choice for the no.1 overall pick because like Beasley and Oden he got the skills, size and the talent that can lead him to become an NBA ALL Star in the near future.

Rubio is good but he might still be a top 5 player in his draft class.

Numerous scouts have Monroe ranked #1 in the country, and it is easy to see why. The 6’10 forward with a 7’0 wing-span has Kevin Garnett-like upside. He is a great athlete and is very mobile for his size. Only a junior, Monroe already has a polished offensive game and has the moves to dominate down low. He has impressed scouts with his ability to step away from the basket and hit the jumper. He can also handle the ball well for his size and is a good passer. On the defensive size of the ball, he is an intimidating shot blocker and has all the tools to dominate the glass. His biggest weakness at this point is that he plays in spurts. While he has the potential to dominate games, at this point he only dominates part of the game. When Monroe picks up his intensity, he could be the most dominate big man since Greg Oden.

Oden played hurt so his stats weren't better than Durant's but they were still great.
Ricky will never average 22.3 PPG in the ACB, here's why:
NBA game = 48 minutes
ACB game = 40 minutes
(22.3 / 40)*48 = 26.76 ppg
Yeah, right... a child playing against men will average that...
BTW, Navarro was ACB top scorer with 17.3 ppg

My dad is into European Basketball, and it ocasionally comes on ESPN here in Australia. Most games are Unicaja, Real Madrid, Panathiniakos, and Tel-Aviv of course.

So yes, I've seen Rubio plenty of times, but as I said before, I haven't even heard of Monroe until now, and I was honest when I said he doesn't seem like that great a player according to these sources.

A. He was listed at 6'10 since he was in his sophomore year in HS. He is playing basically the PF position in his team since he was a freshmen. Possibly the most talented player in the class, Monroe rebounds, finishes and blocks shots like an elite big man, but handles, passes and shoots the ball like a top-flight wing. The lefty, often compared to Lamar Odom, has done nothing to hurt his lofty status.

Greg, all 6’10 220 pounds of him, averaged 27 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks during his sophomore season at Harvey, Louisiana’s Helen Cox High School.

The Cougars finished the season with a 32-6 campaign and a quarterfinal appearance in the state’s 4A playoffs.

Greg made the NY Gauchos, SYF Players and California Hoops pay during the Panthers three-game run at Peach Jam, which was held in North Augusta, South Carolina. Although New Orleans fell short with a 1-2 record for the tournament, Greg posted double-doubles in two of the three games and just missed another with nine rebounds in the third.

For the tourney Monroe averaged 21 points, 13 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.7 blocks. He supplied a monster individual performance of 31 points, 15 rebounds versus the NY Gauchos, a team that featured fellow 2008 high-major prospect Jordan Theodore. Greg also rolled up 18 points, 16 boards, four assists and three blocks against the California Hoops squad.

Not one to let lofty expectations and presumptive rankings go to his head, Greg stays grounded and humble and states the main reason for all of his success.

“I owe a lot to my mom (Norma), my pastor and all the basketball coaches that help to improve my game everyday”, exclaimed Greg, who also boasts a 4.3 GPA in the classroom.

Monroe was that type of player a few weeks ago in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he dominated play at USA Basketball's Youth Development Festival. Playing five games in three days along with 29 of the top juniors and seniors in the country, Monroe led all players at the event in rebounds (12.6 per game) and blocks (3.6) and was fourth in scoring (24.0). He also dished out 2.8 assists per game and made 60 percent of his shots. If there were any questions as to whether Monroe is the best high school player in America, he answered them emphatically at the festival.

Ofcourse it was a hyperbole. I'm big on Jereme though, he's gonna be a stud. What he can do as a freshman in high school is beyond amazing.

Bio and Scouting Report

Jennings is a very special player that has the potential to be one of the best point guards ever, and he captured the nation’s attention as a freshman when he led Compton (CA) Dominguez to the CIF Southern Section Division IIAA title.

He has since helped his stock even more. His extreme quickness and slick handle combine to make him possibly the hardest point guard in the country for defenders to stay in front of. He is an unselfish player and gifted passer that drops dimes that no one in the gym sees coming. He is one of the most entertaining players anywhere, because not only is he a slick ball handler and passer, but he has world class hops and the ability to beat his man off the dribble, get into the lane, rise above the opposing forward (and center) and throw down a nasty one-handed-flush that he had cocked back to the moon. You wouldn’t expect to see something like that from a kid as skinny as him, but Jennings plays without fear, and with a lot of swagger.

He is a southpaw with a good outside shot, but played with a pass-first mentality this summer while leading his SoCal All-Stars to a 46-0 record and a championship at every tournament they played in, including Reebok Big Time in Las Vegas. The SoCal All-Stars’ amazing run had many people saying that they were the best summer team ever.

In early September, Jennings played in the Boost Mobile Elite 24 game at the famed Rucker Park (NY). In a game in which he was one of the youngest players, playing with 24 of the top players in the country, Jennings didn’t disappoint… instead, he shined scoring 12 points and dropping an amazing 15 assists.

Brandon transferred from one hoops powerhouse to another this season when he left Dominguez to enroll at Mouth of Wilson (VA) Oak Hill. With the addition of Jennings, this Oak Hill team has a chance to be one of the best teams in high school basketball history. If that happens, he will have one hell of a resume:

SoCal All-Stars are best summer team in country, and possibly best ever… Oak Hill finishes as top high school team in country, and possibly best ever… and Brandon is the top point guard in the country that runs the show for both teams… and that would all be before his senior season. Talk about “sky is the limit”.

1/1/2007 (Les Schwab Invitational- Hillsboro, OR)- Jennings was the MVP of the top notch event, and led Oak Hill to a victory over Kyle Singler's South Medford team in the championship game: "Brandon Jennings finshed with 24 points and 12 assists, exactly what you want out of a point guard. Jennings is a very gifted player who see's the play before it happens and can create nothing into something. He hit a 30 foot shot at the buzzer to end the second quarter. Will be a big time college player."

12/4/2006- Jennings led Oak Hill Academy to a 65-57 victory over national powerhouse Norcross (GA) High: "Brandon Jennings finished with 9 points and (unofficially) 13 assists. Jennings had poor shot selection in this game, but to his credit should have finished with another 5 assists and he was a terror on defense."

"Brandon Jenning’s 3rd quarter performance was nothing short of amazing. He took complete control of the game at both ends of the floor. Jennings had numerous steals, amazing passes, and dunks. The crowd was already going crazy when Jennings threw a bounce pass between his legs to Howard “Trey” Thompkins for a fast-break finish. When the smoke cleared, Oak Hill had scored 52 points in just 13 minutes to give them an 87-57 insurmountable lead."....

"Top point guard and player in the junior class nationally. World-class court vision, outstanding ball handling, good shot, and great quickness and explosiveness. After this game we think he may be the best point guard defender in the class. Could be one of the best point guards in history when it’s all said and done. Finished with 21 points, 8 assists (surely he had more?), 5 rebounds, and 5+ steals."

Brandon Jenning reminds me of one of the best SG ever.



Jennings is frequently compared to his idol, Monta Ellis. Some see him as a left-handed Allen Iverson. While others see a black Steve Nash. He is considered to be the top rated point guard and top ten overall in the 2008 high school class.
