Exactly, mate. Media will make stars out of anyone if its convenient. That dont make them the best players. I'd rather have Marc and Zach from Memphis than any of New York's 'stars'.

But the average dumb bloke buys into the idear that high ppg = star. Thats the only reason Carmelo and Stoudamire are considered stars at all. Fans always give the highest scorer disproportionate credit for team success. A scorer like Stoudamire is a star, but a lockdown defender and capable rebounder and finisher like Marion is a 'role player'.

Basketball is complex, the media dumbs it down for the average idiot to grasp and follow, the average idiot comes here and repeats the simple axioms the media has trained him to believe. Its that simple.

JVG went on about this last year. Media calls every teams best 3 players a big three these days. I'm looking forward to Orlando's big 3 of Afflalo, Big Baby and Nelson this season :P

Dwight Howard is definitively easily the best Center in the league, there is no Howard/Bynum, Bynum/Howard nonsense. Besides that, when Andrew Bogut comes back healthy next season that puts another Center ahead of Tyson Chandler. He's better both offensively AND defensively. Al Jefferson is obviously better. Al Horford is also better when fully healthy and there's probably others I just haven't thought of. Tyson Chandler pretty much became the most overrated Center in the league the second after they gave give that joke of a DPOY.

i think the term 'big 3' has become a catch phrase that became popular w/ the celtics and carried through when teams like the knicks/bulls/heat got so far under the cap to try and get 3 superstar players on their squad.

if you look at the knicks roster, its almost a big 3. Melo is a superstar player, amare WAS a superstar player and still young enough and tyson chandler is a top 5 center in the nba.

No he isn't. He's a top 10 center in the league, but he's by no means a top 5 center in the league.

Saying Chandler isn't top 5 is pretty ignorant

who is better? Gortat? Kaman? Kwame? Turiaf?

Bynum, Howard, and Noah rank higher than chandler imo

    I said he's in the TOP 15, NOT THAT HE'S 15.

    That being said,

    Metta World Peace
    Mike Miller
    Stephen Jackson
    Harrison Barnes
    Carmelo Anthony

He's in the mix with those other 4 so he's in the 11-15 range.
