Exclamation MYTH: Lebron struggles against single coverage defense

    This is a myth

He absolutely killed San Antonio in 2014 and 2013. It was not his inability to take advantage of the single coverage, more that he did not have sufficient help. 2015 his team lost 3 starters and he had to play insane minutes, and shoulder a massive load... The fatigue was evident by the finals. Not to mention his shot was off too but he was so fatigued and had an interrupted season.

Just go watch Lebron in 2014 finals

And don't give me that "he didn't score when the lead was 10 or less... That's because he is a team player and he was always bringing the lead back to single digits, but his teammates weren't hitting the shots Lebron was passing to them.

Adequate spacing + Good supporting cast + no fatigue = 2012-2014 Lebron with a jump shot, destroying single coverage while still getting his team involved

When he gets the shot back next season after an uninterrupted off season he'll be back to his best

False.. Lebron's 2013 Finals average was 25 ppg on 44.8% shooting - that isn't killing SA... In that series, he scored less than 20 points in each of the first 3 games (18, 17, and 18 points).

In 2014 Finals, Lebron only attempted 17 shots per game on mostly 3-and-D to protect his fg%... He barely went 1-on-1 at all in the 2014 Finals.

Otoh, in 2015 Finals, he took 33 shots per game, which required far more 1-on-1 and midrange - you simply can't get 33 fga on all 3-and-D... Unfortunately, it's a statistical FACT that Lebron has horrible efficiency at the additional midrange and isolations required of high volume shooting, which means he isn't capable of good efficiency at high volume.. His poor efficiency at high volume doomed any chance of his team winning the Finals.

    Wrong

Lebron's jumper was off in 2013 for the first few games

    It happens

Jordan shot below 50% in the 96 finals too

    2014 was 99% single coverage

2015 was massive fatigue which cause for tired legs and inconsistent jumper

He was up against a team that played 12 deep, compared to 6-8 deep

MJ shot 40% 27 points in 1996 finals

This was with the #1 ranked supporting cast of all time, all of which were healthy

you're not getting it - if Lebron is only going to take 17 shots per game, you don't need to double team him.. He's not a threat for a big game..

so OF COURSE he was single-covered in the 2014 Finals - Popovich isn't an idiot... he isn't going to double someone that only takes 17 shots per game.. Pop EXPLOITED Lebron's low shot attempts/efficiency-protecting approach by not doubling and staying at home on teammates to shut them down.

also, since Lebron only took 17 shots, he was able to get them all on 3-and-D... He didn't need to go 1-on-1 at such a low volume - he waited for open 3's and used screen-roll.

So, you're saying he sucked... I agree..

He employed the most stat-friendly, clearout, playground style I've ever seen and still only shot 39%, including 27% outside of 5 feet... That might be the worst of all time.

Sure, let's compare each player's worst Finals:

    *MJ 1996: 27 ppg on 42%

    Kobe 2000: 15 ppg on 35%
    Kobe 2004: 22 ppg on 39%

    Lebron 2007: 22 ppg on 35%
    Lebron 2011: 17 ppg on 47%

    * MJ's #2 option Pippen averaged 15 ppg on 34% shooting, which is the worst all-time for a 2nd option
