Default Would Dwight Howard on the Celtics make them a contender?

Watching them vs OKC they have no paint defense. Kanter and Ibaka are going in on them.

Dwight would would not nicely into their team defense adding in help defense and shot blocking down low.
And he's a consistent scorer if given a decent amount of shots.

What would their title chances be if they acquired him?

this is just what happens when the pretenders in the east meet a top western team.

Dwight doesn't play well in a system where he's a second banana.

On Boston he'd most likely be the 1st option or at least 1a with IT.

It could possibly work out, but it would only be a 2 year window tops. He's 30 and on the down side of his career.

If he didn't have such an ego it could work. He'd have to have reduced minutes and play often with the bench. I think Stevens could find a role for him that optimizes his strengths which are rebounding and defense. His points should mainly come from working the offensive boards.

But, in reality, no way would I want Dwight on the Celts. Chemistry killer.

Celtics don't make any meaningful improvements with Dwight.

He'd fill a massive hole we have in regards to interior defense, but I'm not convinced he's got the right mindset for the type of team Stevens is building. With the cast we have he'd be demanding the ball a lot, which would conflict with the movement heavy system Boston's running. Would help defense, and probably hinder our offense.

If you're asking if Boston should sign him in the off-season, I'd say no. He'll be declining as the team's looking to peak, and the fact he'll likely demand a long and expensive contract would end up hurting the team in the long run, especially since I think the team is still probably 2 years from realistically contending when factoring in player growth and further additions to the team. Dwight in another 2 years I doubt is going to be producing on the level you'd want.

I'd rather try and get Horford in the off-season, continue to build the players we have (and hopefully a quality rookie courtesy of the Nets pick) and keep looking for some kind of mega-trade to get us into true contention. I'm a bit blind when it comes to him but I still wouldn't be opposed rolling the dice on Boogie. It's high risk/high reward right now but the reward is far higher than what you'd get with a declining Howard

You and the other C's fans on here all seem to have the same opinion on him.
It was just wishful thinking, I hate seeing whats left of his talents going to waste in Houston.

But I agree with Horford. His midrange game and help defense would boost you guys to the 2nd best team in the East.

    Good post though.

No, but a combination of Dwight AND Durant could push them into contention.
