Who should the Pelicans target in free agency?

Who should the Pelicans target in free agency?

They will have a ton of cap space and they are clearly looking to win now with the addition of Jrue Holiday.

Iggy. The chances to get him are slim but you have to try.

A starting line-up of Jrue, Gordon, Iggy, Davis, and Lopez would be sick.

Pelicans don't have much cap space after Holiday trade. Definitely not "a ton".

1.) Trade Vasquez for future pick
2.) Decline Jason Smith's options
3.) Can give Iggy contract that averages around 12 per
4.) Use your exception to re-sign Jason Smith to another 3 year deal

Lewis, Carroll, Aminu come off the books - that's enough cap space to sign a max level free agent.

Iggy would be a good pickup, and maybe he would like to play with Holiday again.

JJ Redick or Kyle Korver maybe?

Iggy is THE perfect choice for them.

Jrue/Gordon/Iggy/Anderson/Davis

One heck of a closing unit.

Hornets fan here since 08. Igoudala is a welcome addition to the team. Al Jefferson? I'm not a fan of lopez as our center.

Re: Who should the Pelicans target in free agency?

Assuming they keep Robin Lopez and Jason Smith (probably keeping both), Pelicans have a payroll of $49.3 mil for 8 players. And that doesn't even include some of their minimum salary guys they may or may not keep.

So with a cap of $58.5 million, they have cap space of about $9 million AT BEST to add a player, but with cap holds probably less.

Doesn't seem like "a ton" to me.....they aren't getting Igoudala without making moves or letting both Lopez and Smith go.

Why would they trade Vasquez? he had a great year.

Like I said, the chances of getting Iggy are slim. We'll see what Dell Demps does.

I'm down with Pek or Jefferson at center, then finding a way to add Corey Brewer or Dorell Wright

His trade value is as high as its ever gonna be. Holiday>Vasquez and Brian Roberts showed he can be a serviceable backup pg. Trade him while he's not....no homo.

Martell Webster or Anthony Morrow if they looking for a cheap SF, Webster imo would be a terrific fit for them.

Re: Who should the Pelicans target in free agency?

If the Pelicans are willing to move their first round pick and a first next year for Holiday, then they are serious about winning and that means they are serious about spending.

So it seems likely they would spend up to the luxury tax level, past the salary cap level.

And Vazquez is probably going to get moved, unless they move Gordon instead and move Vazquez to shooting guard (which would be a creative move).
