Kobe got 3 rings because he had Shaq and a quality team. If he had Moe Williams, Parker, Jamison and Illgauskas instead while Lebron had prime Shaq his first 5 years in the league we would not even talk about this.

The only thing Kobe has on Lebron is that he was lucky enough to have one of the most dominant centers of all time before he became the man which gave him those 3 rings that people use to put him ahead of Lebron. Because as the man of the team, Kobe has 1 ring more than Lebron and Lebron will be ahead in that department sooner or later.

I agree I mean with the logic of putting so much weight on rings, MJ would have to rank russel over himself as the cap is even bigger between rings from obe and lbj. If LeBron gets 3 rings, then I'm going to have to send an open letter to kobe that he might not like. But MJ didn't really say anything controversial here, LeBron is better/dominant now and he says it's debatable between which he'd have to chose from at their best but kobe is stil better career wise.

Lebron is better and had mediocre teams for most of his carrer unlike Kobe, I agree with this. But is plain stupid to say Kobe was just carried by Shaq for three rings. He was a unbelievable scorer and a tenacious defender, and without him no way Shaq would had a three peat. And to be fair, I'm not sure if Lebron or even Jordan would won a FMVP award with prime Shaq in their teams.

If to measure greatness by rings is stupid, to measure by FMVP's is either.

I didn't say he was carried, thats not the point and he was not. All I meant was that Kobe had a quality team with Shaq and got 3 rings out of it. He was lucky in that regard. If Lebron had prime Shaq at the firs years of his career he would also have had a bigger amount of rings before being the main man.

That's why I don't like Jordan's rings comment because it doesn't apply. If lets say Lebron also had prime Shaq on his team before he became the man and got 0 rings, then Jordan's reasoning could be applied.

That's what you get for being the 1st pick. Almost 100% of the time you end up on a horrible team. That is unless Stern decides to throw an envelope in the freezer that year.

Kenny probably has it nailed. Kobe is proven. Lebron is yet to be proven in terms of championships.

- so Lebron didn't have a great team when the Cavs won 60+ games each year and were favorites to win the Title?

- Lebron didn't have a great team when the HEAT got merked in the Finals vs teh MAVS?

- The Kobe/ Shaq Lakers were not a very deep team.....and Yes Shaq was a Dominant Force...as was Kobe ( all defensive 1rst team...to go along with 26PPG , 6reb 5ast playoff averages)

but after Kobe and Shaq teh Lakers were not a very deep team at all.....and Lebron's skillset was not able to close games as he can now...young Lebron and Prime Shaq don't win any titles......

Just as Young Penny and Shaq couldn't win......even Prime Wade and Shaq only won 1 Title in 3 seasons....and LA couldn't get past the WCFinals until Kobe became the go to player.

your what if's are desperate and silly......

Again, what Jordan fails to reason is that Lebron is 28 and didnt have the luxury Kobe had early on, a luxury not even Jordan himself had, neither did Kobe win those 3 championships the way Lebron won his or the way Jordan won all his 6... as the man/best player on that team... Kobe didnt win a championship that way until he was 30.. and nobody is talking about career accomplishments anyways... we are talking about right now...

By Jordans reasoning he would not pick himself in 1991 when he won his first championship (at the age of 28) because Magic/Bird were around and had many more rings.... also that Bill Russell should get a nod over him, 11 is more than 6....

The Cavs 2nd best player was coming off the bench for the Clippers the following year. What was Clevelands record again after lebron left ??

Give Lebron or Wade a PRIME Shaq for 8 years like Kobe had, and either one of them win 5 rings, not just 3 in 8 years.

Give Lebron a dominant frontcourt of Odom/Bynum/Gasol when they were younger and obviously much better than they are now (and 3 bigs who can all pass the ball extremely well, which is huge and often overlooked), in the pathetic western conference that had crappy frontcourts, and Lebron has 8 rings now, not just 5.

What happened when OKC brought in Perkins to add to Ikaka and Durant up front to match the Lakers frontcourt ???, and what happened when Dallas brought in Chandler to add to Dirk up front matching the Lakers frontcourt advantage in the West ?

What happened was Kobe was exposed as the fraud he always was. Kobe and the lakers got trounced 8 games to one in those 2 series vs OKC and Dallas with early playoff exits. Without a dominant frontcourt that could breeze through the western playoffs Kobe is (and was) useless. Nobody in the west was fearful of Kobe the stringbean Bryant and his chucking and stupid play. They were fearful of the lakers frontcourt length and ability.

MJ is just trying desperately to make a legacy of rings, for his own benefit, not anyone else. As Miller said last night, MJ's comments are hogwash because he knows Lebron is staring over his shoulder as the GOAT.

Kobe is trash and the most overrated player in NBA history.

You talk outta yo azz son...

Tim duncan has been on Great teams his whole career...

Larry Bird has played on Great teams nearly his whole Career...

Magic Johnson has played on Great teams his whole career..

Lebron James has played on 7 teams ( 7seasons outta 11) that were Championship contenders....twice he played on teams with the best record in the NBA 4 times his teams were favorites to win the Title....

Kevin Durant has been on a Great team his whole career...

Charles Barkley went to Team his rookie year that won teh Title the year before....barkley has played on great teams in Philly and PHX

Shaq played on Great teams his whole career....yet he never dominated in the post season until Kobe became a star...and hasn't Dominated ever like he did with Kobe....

despite bieng in Great shape in Miami and Orlando with 2 elite perimeter players.

You can't punch in attributes and say 1 + 1 = 2....sports does not work like that....Kobe is by far the greatest player of the past decade and a 5X champion as a premiere player in teh League....

many stars have the oppurtunity.....( as shown above)...

to the winner goes the spoils.....duh.

Shaq was just as lucky to play with the best SG in Kobe.

- Lebron had an allstar Caliber Center.....and a allstar caliber Forward ( boozer) since his rookie year...He had great teamates/role players who won 64 games!....so now it's all Lebron?......he still Lost in Miami with WADE and BOSH!!!......until he changed his game and became a better post player and closer!

- young Lebron was not the same player with the same skillset he is today.2013 Lebron on the Cavs would have beaten the Celtics and the Spurs.

- Kobe started plaing with Shaq at 17 years old....you think 17 - 18 year old Wade or Lebron would have won Titles with Shaq?.....GTFO..Lakers couldn't get past the WCFinals until Kobe developed his game...

- Wade wasn't even in the NBA at 21......Lebron had no Jumper at 21 and hardly any game in the post.

- Your fantasy is lacking what really happened...

What a pile of tripe. Wade had no problem winning a title with a beaten down Shaq (who saw 10 minutes less per game in miami because he wasn't nearly the same player as he was in LA and with multiple injuries). And Wade didn't have a polished post game at all at the time. Give healthy Wade a PRIME Shaq for 8 years and he easily wins more than 3 titles. A prime Shaq was the most dominant force we've ever seen and demanded triple teams. Wade with all that room and one on one play would destroy the league.

The greats are defined what they bring on the NBA's biggest stage, and its pathetic how poor kobe has played in NBA finals. Wade had more moments in the 2011 NBA finals than kobe has had in his career. That's because kobe was carried. It's sad how kobe lacks big moments on the NBA's biggest stage - and that's because he's the most overrated player in NBA history.

Give Lebron EIGHT years of prime Shaq and he easily has 5 or 6 titles in those 8 years.. and performs far better than Kobe did in the Finals. Kobe always plays his best early in the regular season when other teams are still figuring things out to pump his totals and FG%. Over the 2nd half of the season his FG% plummets, and gets worse as the season goes on (just as it has over the past 2 months dropping, and he's a piss poor 42% for february). that's his MO. and he's even worse in the playoffs, and in the Finals.

He was carried his whole career. He's useless without the best frontcourt in basketball. As evidenced by getting slapped 8 games to 1 against OKC and Dallas in the 2nd round the last 2 years when they brought in Perkins and Chandler to match the Lakers frontcourt advantage. Kobe is not, and never was good enough to be the difference when everything else is matched up evenly.

Because he's never been that good.
