Re: Kobe Family with CYANIDE, GUNS, PILLS on standby for tomorrows ESPN ranking
ESPN hates Kobe dude.
You have no clue. I was on their site the other day just to see what people were saying about Hornets vs Cavs, then I happened to click a podcast link with Brain Windhorst and some other dude talking about Kobe dropping 38 and a few other topics, right away this other cat goes into complete meltdown mode about how he's tired of hearing about Kobe, how he was never the best player in the league and how he doesn't deserve this extensive send off usually saved for only the absolute all time greats, despite a stellar career and his immense impact on the game. Seriously , dude honestly sounded like he posts on ISH regularly.
Only to then immediately admit after saying all of this that he can't pretend to know anything about what Basketball was like in that era, during that time, but he knows Kobe was never the best because of advanced stats. Let that sink in bros, he's never witnessed Kobe in his prime, at his best , but because of man made numerical formulas, he's sure Kobe was never that great.
To Windhorst's credit he stook up for Kobe and acknowledged he was the best player in the league in the mid 00's, along with Tim until about 2009 when Lebron emerged.
But THAT my fellow hoop heads is whats wrong with the Basketball media of today and the advanced metrics community in general. They should be used as tools to enhance an already well documented and recorded account of a player's production. Not compare players across eras and using formulas to completely dismiss the human aspect of the game.
Either way, that guy was an idiot, not because he thinks Kobe is overrated but because of the logic used for why he thinks so and the simple fact that he's completely oblivious to large chunks of the basketball era of the last 15 years makes him unqualified to even write about the game in my opinion. He cares not for the game itself , but the game of numbers being played off the court with his "analyst" buddies, comparing, contrasting and ranking players based on advanced statistics and metrics.
Long gone are the days of real Sports Journalism with guys like Bob Ryan, Stuart Scott, J.A., Woody Paige etc. These mathematician first , historians of the game second and third are taking over at ESPN.
Pretty soon all you'll need is a solid two years of strong stats to be considered an All-time Great HoF player....OH wait, too late. :lol

Anthony Davis is the perfect example. Two years ago they were ready to crown him the next Goat of the league before Curry pissed in everyone's cornflakes. Now that he crashed back down to earth this year they barely acknowledge him.
That's what impressing the advanced stat gurus get you.

Maybe an eyetest rating can be formulated? Takes into account
traveling, bit- ching, lack of footwork, colluding, fg% protection, coach killing, throwing teammates under the bus for choking, blaming jersey sleeves for a poor shooting night, handpicking teammates then quiting once they get hurt, stiffarming, lack of respect for coach, HGH, feeling the need to get hair surgery , having mom getting banged by someone 3 years older than you named the BigLambo?
SOmeone should get on this advanced statline quick!
