didn't add new coaches to replace the two that left?

Should be thinking title or bust. If they lose in the 2nd round they need to at least make it a series this time

Donovan Mitchell, following an injury-free summer, is ready to lead the Utah Jazz into a much-hyped season

He's not their leader though as much as everyone seems to want him to be:wtf:

That same day the Detroit Bad Boys raved again (from a different writer) about the Utah Jazz, this time considering Donovan Mitchell to be an MVP candidate for this upcoming season. I’m impressed their site wrote articles centered on the Jazz twice in the same week! Are we sure they are really Pistons fans?

If Mitchell is their best player than they will be the best team in the league certainly. Rudy is their MVP candidate until then though

There’s some truth to this claim — otherwise why replace the bad shooters with great ones this summer? — but the effect is overstated. If Mitchell really was a victim of his team’s cramped spacing, you’d think he’d generate better shots when the Jazz ran out lineups with more shooting in them.

What 3 shooters instead of two? Still not enough. :rant

Don't believe he's as long as the guy that took your job in Utah though

Gobert, the NBA’s two-time reigning Defensive Player of the Year and current center for the team, is joining a hefty ownership team. Gobert will join alongside existing investors including DJ stars Steve Aoki and DJ Nicky Romero, the Billboard Award-winning Imagine Dragons, and renowned Latin music producer Tainy. SALT LAKE CITY — The summer brought a somewhat significant philosophical shift for the Utah Jazz.

Yeah they finally decided to build around their best player with guys that actually fit around him. :rant

Quote:

This switch is primed to have an effect on Gobert on both ends of the floor. On defense, where the Frenchman has been named the NBA’s best player two years in a row, he’ll no longer have a second excellent rim protector in Favors to share those duties with (Utah’s new backup center, Ed Davis, noted earlier this week that the plan is to not have him and the Stifle Tower play much together).

I think there will be less turnovers and long misses and the transition D will improve. No longer having the matador should help as well. More Royce.

Quote:

It is easy to lament the exit of Derrick Favors. It is weird it is to see him in another jersey. His defensive impact on the floor was remarkable. The defensive twin towers look Favors gave the Jazz when he started with Rudy Gobert was immeasurable. When talking about Derrick Favors replacements, it’s easy to instantly go to power forward potentials like Bojan Bogdanovic, Royce O’Neale, and Jeff Green. Those three will all see time at the position, but that’s not where the Jazz are going to miss Derrick Favors. They’re going to miss his ability to spell Rudy Gobert when Rudy Gobert is off the floor. The true value of Derrick Favors was as a backup center, and that’s where Ed Davis—who has been overlooked as a signing this offseason—comes in.

and Niang. The offense improves. Rebounding improves. D possibly improves. Goodbye finally Favors!

Quote:

That’s not to say he’s a complete liability on the offensive end. While many will look at his free throw percentage and lack of ability to shoot long jumpers, the Utah Jazz see the perfect puzzle piece. Ed Davis is much like Rudy Gobert with his ability to screen defenders off the ball handler. Rudy Gobert was seen as the best in the league at this averaging 6.7 PER36. Ed Davis averaged 5.8 PER36. The ability for Utah not to have to completely alter their offense when Rudy Gobert comes out of the game is invaluable. While the Jazz did gain an offensive wrinkle with Derrick Favors pick and pop ability and finishing around the rim, Gobert’s screening ability is just top notch. Likewise is Ed Davis. He can be used just like Rudy Gobert as the ignition to their offense.

Can be good to have different type of players like Favors was as well

Re: Pre-season 2019

In his Media Day session on Monday, Jazz coach Quin Snyder called Mike Conley “an elite point guard,” but also went to great lengths to reiterate that he needed to observe all the new players operating within the framework of his system in order to have a true gauge of their capabilities and not be relying upon “preconceptions.” So then, on Wednesday, two days into the team’s 2019 training camp, what had the coach learned of the team’s major offseason acquisition? “It’s unusual that you trust a player so quickly, but he’s earned that,” Snyder said. “That’s who he is.” – via Salt Lake Tribune

Quote:

He’s played off the ball before, even extensively, but he’s embracing that potential role heading into this season. In the first couple days of training camp, he’s played the point, he’s been a wing, and he’s run the floor as a four.

for a guy that has been hurt so much playing him against bigger guys at the 4 doesn't seem like a great idea to me

Quote:

That fits right in with the new-look Jazz. Utah has a myriad of players on the wing that can not only handle the ball but also initiate the offense. Bojan Bogdanovic can create; Ingles is lethal in the pick and roll; Donovan Mitchell’s court vision continues to improve. Heck, coaches have even encouraged Jeff Green to play some point guard in the first two days of training camp.

The difference is all those guys can shoot and play basketball. Exum is long and fast and not much else

Quote:

Exum hasn’t been a full participant in practice yet, as the Jazz are purposefully being cautious with his recovery. Lindsey said that everything is pointing in the right direction, but that there isn’t a timetable for when Exum will be ready for full competition. But, at least, he’s participating — he’s playing.

always rehabbing. :rant
